Borla exhaust...Thoughts?

I'm thinking about getting a borla exhaust system for my 86 n/a rx7.

Just wonderin if anyone out there has boughten this exhaust system yet, or if anyone knows how decent it would be on a 7......I do know borla is a big exhaust company but what im getting at is if there's any other good exhaust system companys, if so are they cheaper then borla? Seeing as for borla your probly paying like $100 just for the name "borla".

I have the borla and im happy with it, as a matter of fact I can give you links to a few video clips of me driving. I also have headers and straight pipe in place of the cat , so basically full exhaust. I also have streetported motor, intake , lightweight steel flywheel, and upgraded clutch. So I dont think Im stock at all.

I've had the Borla on an S5 coupe at the same time as I had the Racing Beat on my S4 vert. The Borla is more raspy in comparison. I personally like the RB better as I prefer the way the pipes look. Both are ridiculously easy to install. Both are expensive.
Go with anything else and you'll be looking at a new system within a couple of years. Either one of the above will last.

Did you keep the exhaust difusers in when you got your engine rebuilt?

My exhaust diffusers were cut out by kevin landers during the rebuild so they are pretty much gone.

I don't know from experience, but we at ISC Racing (Miatas and RX7s only - SCCA racing) will not put a borla muffler on our rx7s because we melt them out. I'v never seen it done, but I was told about it by my boss. Obviously we build non-streetable race cars and we build our own headers and completely straight back exhaust, but we use bought mufflers. (If we use mufflers) Unless a customer demands us use one, we won't do it. There are a few miatas with them though.

Your pics are better than mine , but one of my tips was actually partially bent (left side) and is not 100% perfect (bent it back into shape alittle myself) but thats why the guy sold it cheaper. I got it brand new for $300 shipped with a barely bent end on the tip that doesnt even affect performance and is barely noticable.

yeah mine doesnt line up right until the exhaust warms up, since stainless steel "grows", my passenger side of the y-pipe as also slightly mangled @ the hanger by debris . . . that pissed me off . . . alot. also got mine very cheap used . . .

I have had Borla's on both of my fc's. Love em...I got mine from Summit racing they seemed to beat anyones price on them a while back sub 400.00, but now it seems that they have caught up with everyone else price wise 500.00 plus.

re: borla exhaust

Ok, there's some this thread about the way the borla is built, and a lot about the sound versus the RB Cat-Back system, but does anyone have some kind of HP comparison? I'm not asking for dyno slips or anything like that, but some sort of performance review would be nice.

Though I suppose the Borla IS $100 less than the RB, so for budget conscious consumers that may be the way to go anyway.

It's great to see all these positive reviews about Borla. I'm picking up an exhaust system made by them in a few weeks for about $515 so I'm glad the investment will be worth it.

Damn that's a pretty nice sounding system. It's just like RB where's it's quiet until you open it up. Now I wonder how a 3 Rotor sounds through it LOL

I like the way trust exhaust sounds, very quiet with the presilencer, no cats, and stock exhaust mani. It also looks better than racing beat and borla imo

I too have the Borla catback, and I autocross at all events possible. I started with a NA that had a Racing Beat header and a Bonez high flow cat, and it was quite nice sounding. Unfortunatly it resonated alot at 3000 to 3500 rpm, so freeway driving was kinda weary.

Now I have the same Borla catback with a turbo motor, a 3" downpipe, straight to the catback, and its been great for the last 6+ months. The exhaust will not melt, as it has stainless mesh inside. It sounds great now, quiet unless your really on the gas.

Overall I'm VERY pleased with the setup. I prefer it over the Racing Beat catback exhaust on an NA (my brother has a full Racing Beat exhaust).

Here is a long random clip of what the exhaust sounds like w/ the turbo setup. First 3/4 of the video is in car, while at the end, my car is a red Fc w/ a sport spoiler and Skyline 5 spoke rims (gunmetal 16"). Enjoy!
