Borg Warner T04B Turbo

Hi. I am looking at the Borg Warner T04B turbo and have some questions.

A/R is .60 compressor and .96 turbine. Is that a proper size for a 13b? How many hp can it flow for and how will the spoolup be?

It is the non-internal wastegate model.

Thanks.

Decent mid 300's turbo. Should spool well on a stock port with the .96 hotside.

BW turbos are tough ****.

Do you think 350rwhp would be possible with all supporting mods and a good tune?

If your paying more than $ 400-$ 500 I would go more in he way of a 60-1 ( known as To4S )

That's a terrific turbo! Should be $400 retail brand-new. Good for mid-high 300's to the wheels but that's about it. Used two of them in the past few years.

Thanks for the replys. The borg warner turbo might be just too small for my hp goals. Which turbos should i look at to reach 400rwhp with a good spool? And is there any minimum A/R ratio for exhaust housing for not "choking" the engine? Is the t4 housing a must or is it able to use a t3 exhaust housing with high A/R ?

Thanks

I'd stay away from T3 mainly because no one really makes a manifold with a T3 flange for our cars. However if you must, I'd recommend at least a 1.00A/R with a T3.

With a T4, the smallest A/R exhaust I would run is about a .81 Much lower then that and you really start choking it up high. Huge exhaust manifold pressure, sky high EGT's pre turbine......just too much stress at that power level.

For your goals, I'd recommend a GT35R with a .84 exhaust housing - T4 flange. That will give you enough compressor to get your goals at approx. 15-17psi and still has a little effciency above that. The turbo spools excellent with that exhaust housing will be very streetable/responsive.

If you're referring to the 1.32 A/R, that's not for the faint of heart nor for the common car.

To respond to the original poster's question, I'd recommend a 0.84 for a stock motor or a 0.84/0.96 A/R for a street port that's not going to see a million horsepower. For ports considerably more aggressive or power above 400 to the wheels, go 1.00 and larger. All P-Trim, unless you want to explore Q-Trim stuff.

Thanks for all answers. What do you think about a Borg Warner s200 with 1.15 A/R exhaust (divided). Too big? Car will be mainly used for street/track so I want a good spoolup. And oh, turbo will probably be mounted on a FD motor. And the hp goal is around 400rwhp.
