boost problem / turbo noise

ok my turbo is making a really strange sound when in first gear starting to go from a stop. sometimes it wont do it, and sometimes it does it on and off very quickly as it builds up boost, and only under boost. its kinda like the sound of the turbo spooling but 10x louder and it sounds horrible. but it only does it in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear. it definitely doesnt feel right.

anyone have any idea what it could be?

i checked the IC piping and TID piping, its all nice and tight. so i dont know...

Can you describe it any further than that? Something I can think of that kind of sounds like the turbo boosting but a LOT worse and sounding horible, that happened to me. Maybe the compressor blades are contacting the housing. ie, your bushings might be farked.

Just a possibility..

you may want to take the tid off and see if there is any shaft play or if the turbo is spinning freely without anything stuck in the turbine wheel.

its a possibility that the wheel is rubbing on the housing, but i dont know, i remember i checked the turbo not too long ago and i dont think it had any shaft play...

i think it started after i took the TID off and i was running the AFM directly on the turbo and then a filter directly onto the AFM... after i changed it back it started doing it... but it might just be coincidence.... i dont know... but its really annoying and its messing up the spooling.

Sounds to me like something maybe has falled into the compressor, your turbo might be fux0red, take off the TID and check it out.

damn, anyone here? i really want to find out why its doing this... i just took it for a spin and actually boost isnt that much affected by it, it just sounds real bad... could it possibly be some sort of air leak? or vaccum leak? im lost!

the good people over at teamfc3s.org suggested that it could be doing it due to an exhaust leak... and sure enough i HAVE an exhaust leak at the manifold, i'll replace the gasket tomorrow, hopefully this solves my problem!
