boost prob

not sure if this is the right forum or not but ill start here anyway. I have an 89 TII. Today on my way home from work I stepped on the gas and noticed that my boost gauge read 1 bar. I let off the gas and then turned down the boost on my boost controler but it had no effect on the boost. I normally run it at .7 bar. What would the cause of this be? Could it be that my boost controler has become disconected somewere? And is it safe to drive as long as I dont let the boost get very high? Thanks.

Was it colder out than usual when this happens? That tends to make the boost jump a tad.

ummmm I know I will sound like an idiot by saying this but what is a wastegate? Mine hasnt been replaced though so it is stock. I did some searching and is it possible that there is debries in it or that somehow it is stuck? The weather is cool but not more then it has been. And if it thats the answer wouldnt my boost have still gone down when i turned the boost down?

thanks,
ira

check the vacume lines coming off the waste gate actuator valve. its the silver thing bolted to the compressor housing with an arm sticking out the back and hoses coming out of it. follow them from beginning to end. you'll have to take the intake from the airbox to the turbo off to do this
