Boost issue. HELP!

Just put a S5 Jspec in my 90TII. Got a problem. I have never had a turbo car before, And im not sure how the turbo is suppose to sound. When I take off in first gear, it makes a loud whooshing noise. Sometimes its not quite soo loud, and it feels like the car is actually creating some power. It makes the noise when the turbo is trying to spool up, but it seems to me that the turbo is leaking and creating that noise. It doesnt have the ***** that I figured that this car should have.

Any ideas on how to check and see if im getting as much boost as I should be? All i have is the factory boost gauge. Anything else to look for that may be making the turbo not work very well> Thanks

did you check all the piping? the pipe from the intercooler to the TB elbow likes to pop off. also where the vacuum lines checked before install?

I replaced all the vacuum lines that were hard. The rest of them looked ok.
The intercooler piping may be the cause. I am going to try to rig up a tester and see if I have any leaks.
