Boost issue

I have a 89 fc with a jdm t2 motor thats been fully rebuilt and ported with atkins apex seals. up to 7 - 8 lbs of boost the car runs fine, revs all the way to 8k. really no issues with it. a/f ratios are good. when we try tuning it at higher boost it all goes to ****. doesnt want to make power. just trying to figure out why? would it be because the motor is basically brand new with no mileage on it and the apex seals have to seat? any input would be great

I hope your tuning the engine as your boosting more. If your car is tuned with the lower boost, the higher boost will lean out and cause you to damage your engine if not blow the newly rebuilt thing.

What ECU are you running? That's a key question because the stock ECU performs boost cut above 8.6 PSI.

Its an apexi power fc.
I most likely just have to break the motor in. I just wanted to see if there is something else i should be worrying about

Sounds like it needs to be tuned. Unless you have some way to measure AFRs, then it's guessing and will result in a blown engine.

At least wait about 500KM or so before running into boost. Though it's not the end of the world if you shorten the breakin, a reasonable breakin period allows you to tune the light load and make sure nothing is wrong.
