Boost gauge doesn't work!

the in dash gauge doesn't work,,,what exactly runs it,,is there a sensor or is it a vacum run gauge?

doesn't seem like my coolant temp gauge works either
(bare in mind i have never driven this thing anywhere,,just had a it running in my garage,,but i did let it warm up)

i am planning on getting an autometer boost gauge but i would like the indash to work too.

Sounds like you just got the car. If so, check for an FCD. If there is one, that's your problem. The stock boost guage doesn't work with a FCD plugged in.

open the hood and look on the passenger side strut tower. there is a little black box called a boost sensor. if the car contains a Racing Beat FCD there will be a separate black box with a plug hanging under this boost sensor...if it is a different kind of FCD it could be under the passenger side carpet where the ECU is.

Where do you get that idea from? My boost gauge works fine with my Racing Beat FCD. If the gauge doesn't work that means the ECU is seeing NO boost. The FCD is supposed to only let the ECU see a certian amount of boost (~8psi). If you have an FCD that is telling your ECU there is NO boost then you probably need to invest in a better FCD.

I would make sure that the vacuum line is hooked up that runs from the intake manifold to the boost pressure sensor. The boost pressure sensor is a little black box that is attached to the passenger side strut tower. It is also possible that this box is bad, has been disconnected, or has in some way been tampered with. Note: the vacuum line that runs to this has a restricter pill in it that should be put into the new vacuum line if you replace it.

Good luck,

I stand corrected. Just going by personal experience. Everytime I tried a FCD, my stock guage stopped working. Taking it out always fixed the problem. Sorry about that.

if you do have an FCD it would be a good idea to go with a mechanical guage or some other sort of third party system that doesnt get its reading from the ECU

There is also the possibility that your harness has some sort of flaw in that area. I have been battling electrical bugs since I have gotten my TII. Funny, the only part that has given me any serious headaches was made by Schmitsubishi! Still runs great and boosts fine, just can't safely get into boost. BH13b@aol.com

Hmm... what kind of FCD were you using? That's weird.

the boost gauge should move with an FCD. it just won't reach the top as the fcd is cutting off the signal to the ecu.

umm, if you don't have that box you need it!! it should be on the pass side shock tower facing the front.

Did you try blowing through the hose? It should be VERY hard to blow through. It's hard to see the restricter, but it's located near the intake manifold side of the hose. It's a small black piece of plastic. If you can't find it you could probably use some sort of piece to replace it. I think Pettit sells something similar for the 3rd gens to control boost. If you want to you can always just buy a new hose from the dealership.

Good luck,

'boost pill' is separate from the boost sensor hose

If your hose is in good shape, just order the pill.

I just had the local Mazda dealer order me a couple of the boost restrictor pills. They're a separate part # from the hose itself. A little dot on their computer display just below the hose itself. Fairly cheap too.

It didn't look like the pill was a part of the hose from the text...
