Smile Bonez Race Pipe

Hey, I have a 91 GXL and the car is slow as hell. I think it may be because of the cats being clogged.

The questions is, can I put it in if I have the stock exhaust?
Will my 6 ports still work? (even though they don't work right now.)
Flames?

Thanks!

Or you could get an exhaust shop to weld two flanges to a short piece of pipe for half the price...

Thanks!

If I get a custom one, wouldn't the car be very loud? I don't really want the cops to notice me since the car won't be street legal.

The mid-pipe from any one brand IS a pipe with two flanges at each end, so what is your point ?

All right, I'll trust you on that!
So what will the custom straight pipe replace? Both the pre-cats and the main cat or only the main cat?

I'm scared to ask, but what does "flange" mean? Sorry I am French so I don't speak English very well.

Thanks!

The mid-pipe actually replaces the stock main cat. The pre-cat (there is only one pre-cat in a FC) is replaced when you install a downpipe. There is also a small piece of piping connecting those two (might wanna save this and use it when you install either one of those).

Installing both a DP and a MP completely removes all cats, so your car is no longer legal. Removing just the pre-cat makes your car fail emissions when cold (the main cat is more than able to pass emissions when it is warmed to operating temperatures). However installing only a MP will also make your car fail emissions.

The same principle applies for sound/noise levels. A DP alone wont make much of a difference. A MP alone, same thing. Both will be very loud. If you have also a free-flowing catback, then the car is almost unbearable. You need at least one piece of sound proofing (main cat or good straight mufflers).

Flange is the oval/rectangular thing at each end of the pipes, that allows you to bolt them together.

Hope this helped...

technically, removing any part between the engine and the y pipe will make your car illegal in ca. ca emissions laws don't allow you to mess with that equipment.

on the other hand, no one's going to do a visual on your car. i'd keep the original stuff handy when you need to get your car smogged. as long as you can pass the sniffer test, you should be ok.

if you get the race pipe, most likely, you'll shoot flames. if you still have any of the cats in your exhaust, you most likely won't shoot any flames.

another thing to consider with the race pipe is the smell...your exhaust will stink pretty bad.

no, you can't do that unless the car is for "off-road" use ONLY *snickers*

no no no only if your car has less that 5years/60k miles by then the exhuast can be replaced with superior parts or OEM parts... either way trust me my friend owns an exhuast shop really popular with v8's there called spintech
