Thay are for hood pins. The owner has removed his hinges and hood latch. It permits him to remove his hood in seconds. It is useful for a race car.
I think most people that have it are practicing to be 'ricers'

Actually, that is www.fc3s.org "Project 86". Yes, those are hood pins. I have the same ones, and I get compliments all the time (that is, unless you forget to put them in one day, and your hood flys up doing $2k in damage to the roof and windshield....DOH!!!)

Haven't we ALL heard this
Wow, locking hood pins...didn't know they had those. Thats cool. Glued on huh? Ouch, that is funny. Advance auto sells this exhaust tip...you bolt it up and hook up the 12V. for the blinking LEDS that are inside the exhaust tip

We have come full circle... from useful (sometimes necessary) racing part to something that people only recognize as a ricer part.
Hoodpins keep your hood from becoming a kite at high speeds, and retain fiberglass hoods that do not have provision for hinges. Most 'glass or carbon hoods should be pinned even if they do latch, as they tend to be less stiff than metal hoods and if a corner flexes up and catches some slipstream... well, the latch isn't going to do much for you when it rips out of the leading edge of the hood (more common with 'glass than carbon). See above- "kite".

The first time you have your hood fly up on the highway and bend over the roof like something out of a Daffy Duck cartoon, you'll appreciate hood pins.
Yes, that happened to me... at 2am, pulling onto a highway. It's a VERY effective way to bring you fully awake...

Wow, where to start on this one.
Yes they are hood pins. If you look at the How-To's section it shows then, and how to install them. They are on the car since it is a track only car. That shot was taken in Phoenix when we went out there to do some drag racing and dyno tune the car. I have them on so that I can remove the hood completely to work on the or in the engine area. Ever try to work towards the back of the engine and keep hitting your head on the hood while it is propped up? I don't.
The car is currently being fitted with a 13B-RE to race in NASA Super Unlimited class, so I think the hood pins are relevent to the nature of the car and it's purpose.
The wheels that were on it are my 91 vert wheels. I just had them on to drive out to Phx so the slicks wouldn't get eaten up on the freeway driving from San Diego.
And for the record, those are what the hood pins look like on the car, they are not hooks. They are ring shaped so you can pull them out quickly.
