you would have to weld them to the y pipe yes......Or if you are worried about having to weld them on permanently and wish to be able to take your mufflers out for some odd reason you could purchase some flanges and have the flanges welded on to the muffler and on to the y pipe so that you could bolt them up. What is your idea here? Knowing where you are ultimately going with this would help with finding the answer.

lee, what that short throw shifter a good investment?
are you saying it would work to bolt the new "Y" pipe into the downpipe? and get new mufflers welded on the new "y" pipe? i wouldnt have to get rid of the downpipe?

just go by a "cat back"..

The racing beat mufflers would be bolt on to the stock or their aftermarket cat back/ Y pipe.

the stock mufflers are welded on to the stock "Y" pipe, so thats why i would buy a new "Y" pipe along with the mufflers

All right you can't buy a down pipe for your car as said by Scott 89T2 those are for turbo model cars, for your car if you have the modey to spend go to http://www.mazdatrix.com/r-ex86nt.htm and look at those exhaust systems, or you can just buy single exhaust pieces from that site, meaning muffler, pre silencer, header...

The stock mufflers are not welded on, they bolt on to the stock Y pipe.

If you have a Y pipe and the mufflers are welded on, then you already have an aftermarket exhaust (at least the cat back).

That doesn't necessarilly mean he has a custom cat back, it probably means that somone took it to midas and when midas does exhaust work to save time and money they torch the stock exhaust or whatever they are working on off and weld new ones on so he probably just has newer mufflers.

If it is not factory, then it is either custom or aftermarket.

A N/A down pipe would work on a N/A car, but a Turbo down pipe would not work on a N/A car.

The exhaust manifold is different

I don't think that they make down pipes for N/A's, I think the best option for an N/A is a Racing Beat header, and presilencer.

LOL this thread has gotten absolutely nowhere. Steve please tell us what kind of car you have as I don't see a sig that indicates whether you are driving a TII or an N/a. Tell us what you want to do and what your concerns are and we can help you.

-Lee

PS- The short THROW shifter is the same height as stock but the distance that your hand travels is greatly reduced giving you an easier time shifting. The bushings and the entire set up from Mazdatrix is well worth the money in my opinion. Anyone from my club will tell you the same.....they blow their load when I show them the shifter.

again incorrect, RB makes N/A down pipes. People that are concerned about the noise of a head use them.

Heck you can even buy them from RX-7Store.net

and i own a down pipe for it, that is currently on the car, in place of the three catylitic converters that were cloughed (spelling??haha).

also, i know the short throw shifter isnt shorter, the volcrom is higher on it though.

If you were to buy a direct OEM replacement Y-pipe you would be able to bolt on OEM mufflers. The stock stuff is bolt-on.
