bolt broke off in turbo?

Ok I was taking of the part of the turbo so I could port the wastegate and one of the bolts broke off. What do I do? I've heard of drilling it out or something maybe? Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Bolt or Stud? Which one? Compressor Housing/exhaust housing or cartridge housing? Is there any of it sticking out? How about a picture?

Its a bolt. There are 3 studs that the downpipe bolts to and then 2 bolts that hold the wastegate cover on. About half of the bolt is still in the turbo. Nothing sticking out

Ok : Here is how I would attack it.

1.Soak in PB Blaster overnight, gentley tapping every couple of hours to vibrate it.

2. Center punch the broken nub to give a good starting point for your drill

3. Order some Left-handed drill bits. I would start with a 1/8" bit. 1/8" Drill Bit

and move up to a 3/16" 3/16" Drill bit

Most of the time a left handed bit will back the offending nub out, If not you have it dilled out to try an easy-out

Take a center punch Center Punch

You can buy them close to the diameter of the hole. And strike it with a ball peen hammer to make an indentation in the broken end of the bolt In order to help keep your drill bit from wandering

Or if you want to get ****-Retentive, Take it to a machinr shop and have them EDM (Electro-Discharge Machine) it out. Or put it in a mill and machine it out

Don't try and use an EZ out on a turbine housing bolt, its just a waste of time.

If you don't have a drill press, just take it to a machine shop and pay them to get it out.

Have you tried using a vaccuum to get it out? My dad dropped a cap into my intake manifold once, vaccuum worked great.

You are thinking of something completely different bdoty311.

When I replaced the broken one on mine I grinded one side flat, soaked it w/ antiseize and then took vicegrips to it. However for yours Id take it to a machine shop.

BDoty311, I think the bolt is still threaded in the turbo itself. I agree with Felix, I would take it to a machine shop. That metal is pretty hard from heating up and cooling down over and over again.
