BNR stage 2 inlet too big for stock TID?

OK so i finally got around to swapping out my turbo and I noticed that the inlet on the upgraded turbo is bigger then the stock one.

I have an 87 with the BNR stage 2 upgrade. The inlet on stock looks to be about 2.5 inches and the upgraded one looks to be 3 inches. Bryan's site, and all my research on here indicated that it would bolt right up with no mods. But my stock TID is too small. Am I just missing something? Or do i need to fab up a TID?

Any help appreciated.

i would imagine that you would have to come up with a new TID. unfortunatley, the only place that i, personally, have ever seen for sale, does not sell them anymore. so youll have to make one on your own.

New TID mang. Buy an E-bay adapter and cone-filter for $25 (shipped) and get some plumbing-pipe at Home Depot and make a custom 3" TID. Either that, or buy a 3" aluminum (bend) off E-bay and do it that way.

Do you still use the afm or are you running some other sort of air metering system? Be sure to keep your afm level with your new TID.

you have to fab up a new one. I got rid of my stock TID a while back and when the BNR turbo went in the TID was useless. I made mine out of a Prelude intake for 16 bux.

I went to home depot and got a 2" to 3" rubber adapter for $2.
Its a stretch, but it will work until you get a real TID.

Well I talked to bryan at BNR and he says that I need to use the 96 prelude intake and do some fab work. I was planning on doing a tid upgrade in the future but I really wanted the thing to be a strait bolt up. Oh well. I'm going to get industrious i guess.

My only concern is getting the bends to match up to the stock afm I would rather not have it canted slightly.

If anybody has any good Ideas on how to get this sucker to mate up let me know.

I have the same exact problem right now, fixed temporarily with the ghetto home depot fix i mentioned earlier. There are a few intakes that come up under 96 prelude. Anybody know if THIS
one will work?

That engine bay is Thug nasty... in a good way

it still doesn't quite answer my question, and I plan on using the stock AFM, and I don't have a FMIC. From your picture it looks like the intake in my link is the same one as the one in your car though, so I'll get that and cut it up to make it work.

does anybody who does this have a way to fit the stock BOV??? There is nowhere to put it on the prelude intake!

thanks but it needs more work.

The Prelude one will fit but you should do your best to keep the S4 AFM level.

No idea about the stock BOV.

My intent is to have one that is just the same as the stock TID so it looks like it needs to be 3" at the Turbo and 3 1/4 at the back of the AFM. then i just have to figure out the hoses for the air bypass valve and the check valve hose that goes off to the rats nest.

Sooooooooooooooo

Who best to have one fabbed up if i want to go that route instead of cutting the prelude pipe. Exhaust shop? Or someplace else?

I have built a custom 3" TID that worked pretty good with the stock BOV... Just buy a short piece of pipe with a slight bend (or home depot plumbing stuff works fine) and then drill a 1" hole in it. Thread a 1" pipe fitting into this and seal it with JB-weld and RTV so that the fitting doesn't have any leaks. Run 1" heater-hose from the BOV outlet to the custom TID fitting and secure it with hose-clamps.

You could even buy a cheap plastic 3" honda-style intake pipe from Schucks or Action Auto (in Shoreline or Lynnwood) and then just cut it with a hack-saw to fit.

I would personally block off the ACV and if you're still running a cat, just use some more of that 1" heater-hose to go directly from the air-pump outlet and into the split air-pipe...

Not running ACV at the moment. I only put it on for emmisions. The check valve I was thinking about is the little metal ****** under the blow off.

I didn't think about using a 1" pipe fitting. Thats a good idea. Thanks Erik
I may have to search for a cheap honda intake, GI joes used to have them, if not then shucks. I love action but they are both just a little hard to get to for me. Not much just enough to be a pain.

The Homedepot pipes you are talking about are the PVC pipes? I may have to try that too. It wont matter for a few days anyway I gota get one of the water hoses going to the turbo as mine was pretty bad.

Ironically I got the stage 2 not so much for the power, but for the bigger wastegate to help combat my spikes to 12.5 psi. I just wanted to run about 10psi. But now a solid pipe will add to this. OH well i guess ill just live with the extra power.

Now off to search for TID info on the forum.
