Block Heater?

Well my car has been in the shop a few times when it gets cold, wont start everytime. well they finallt figured the rotor and apex seal was shrinking just enough so it wouldnt make compression. well now im having a block heater installed. you plug it up overnight and it keeps the block really warm. i had never heard of these on rotaries before. so mabey if your fc isnt starting when its really cold, you should look into a block heater.

How cold is "cold"?
Most of the FC's i've seen up here in Manitoba (including mine) have block heaters from the factory. I doubt ANY FC with a block heater would've started today, it was -29*C (-20*F) here.

Really?
Are FCs notorious for cold weather starting issues?

It was -24F here in Denver this morning and mine fired right up.
Sheer luck, probably.

im not sure how cold they stop running at. it was like 3 degrees here when mine wouldnt start, then because there was no compression it flooded.

From what I have heard, the lower the compression, the harder the cold start, but thats not gospel

Nope. Any cars that are hard to start in cold weather are in poor tune.

not necissarily, a car can have a problem soley based on the cold, low battery, gas frozen in the lines, stuff like that. plus my car is tuned just fine, one of the rotors and apex seals shrink just enough to loose compression, not really a tuning problem.

2007 F-250 6.0l turbo diesel 4500 miles on it failed to start at -29F. Towed in and warmed up a few degrees, started just fine. Network, emissions, and drive tests run, no faults were present in any of the modules, no freeze frame. All mechanical tests passed.

Explain how that is in poor tune? And I don't want to hear "because it is a ford" because that is iggnorant.

Low battery would mean the car is in poor tune (ie. needs a replacement battery).

Water in the fuel lines means that the car is in poor tune (ie. needs a fuel system flush).

Diesel fuel gels in cold weather.

yeah the reason is my rotor has shrunk in this cold weather. then since there is no combustion it dosnt burn the fuel then it floods.

What he is trying to say is that it shouldnt shrink that much to where it will not start.
