FC's Hand brake???

(I did a search and didn't find anything)

I heard that FC's can only use the hand brake as a parking brake.

Is this true or not?

parking brake = locks the rear wheels = if you pull it at speed hard enough with the clutch pushed in the rear wheels will lock = the *** end coming out.

same as any car ever, except for 4wd/awd i would assume.

well id say if you were going to do that a lot then you might wanna check the cables and lube the hinge on the handle, wouldnt wanna have no emergency brake!

also check the seals on the actuator shafts in the rear calipers. mine are dried and cracked, everytime i use the park/supplemental emergency brake it starts hemoriging fluid.

every time i wanna get sideways i just dump the clutch, not saying its any better than useing the e-brake, but it is a rear drive car!

have fun!

insted of telling not to use it, let encourage him to use it for what he wants, then post results. is it easier, better?

the one thing you may want to check is the little peg on the rear calipers. one of mine was broken off, so the handbrake would only lock one tire at speed.

Why would you think you can't use it for that? It's no different to 99% of other hand brakes out there.

I was standing in the wall-mart parking lot when i look over to see my friend was speeding around in his Kia. long story short he hit a light pole and totaling his car. what happened? He explains to me "I was going too fast and this light pole was coming up.. so i used the E-brake because it was an emergency." I bust up laughing. and asked him if he used the brake pedal at all because it was obvious if he would have he would have stopped short of it. He said no just the e-brake and again emphasized that it was the brake for an emergency stop. ugh...

"I heard" as in, my friend was being a smart *** and saying that you can't use an FC's hand brake to get the rear tires to lock up while in motion.

Some times you need to find out for sure so you can rub it in their damn face.

its either use the ebrake, or let the rpms drop and let the clutch out fast, the wheels will lock as the engine catches up to the speed of the drivetrain. works like a charm if your carrying some speed, IE the top of second, and time it right with your turn in. or lowish rpm 3rd, clutch in, rpms drop, into second, let the clutch out fast.

my personal favorite is going ***** out foot to the floor top of 2nd, turn in real sharp and clutch kick. works like a charm, except it takes a bit of skill and luck to keep the *** end out on long turns without losing speed with na power.

another funny story. i was riding with a friend of mine in his s14 on the track. he couldnt get the *** end out so i suggested the ebrake. he goes flying across the track yanking the ebrake without pushing the clutch in or anything. i kept trying to tell him he had to push in the clutch when he pulled it but he didnt listen. i feel sorry for his rear brakes.

I've never understood why you guys call it an e-brake. I know it can be used if the brakes fail, but most people who don't call it a hand brake call it a parking brake because that's mostly what it's used for.

I'm with you NZConvertible that term is quite misleading. Although, I never thought about it until that experience.. perhaps because I understand mechanically how the mechanism functions and to what wheels the braking force is applied to.. and some basic laws of physics? It makes me wounder how many people out there really don't understand its true application simply due to that misleading term. "emergency-brake"

I had the stocker and a hydro handbrake. Id always wanted to try one out and I got it for 50$ at a local VW shop. It worked pretty well but was out of place as an icecream cone in hell. THe pull was alot easier than the calbe handob. LOL i just said handjob.

THE CNC brake was the one I used, but you can get them way cheaper at a VW store than 100$ and most of you guys are in cali so there are a bunch to choose from.
