Blew it up...
I was Driving on EC Row Expressway in Windsor on tuesday night at about 9:45 PM with TitaniumMoe following me... he waved me beside him, and screamed "GIVE IT!!" so I did... My mufflers have removable silencers, and I had them out... boost crept to about 14 PSI midrange in 4th, no detonation,.. by 6000 it had bled down to maybe 10-11 PSI, and that's when it pinged.. I let off, stuck the car in neutral, and it stalled.. put it back in gear, got on the gas, and blargh. sounds like a supra. Stopped at a gas station, checked the compression.. 105-105-105 front, 30-30-90 rear.
Pulled the UIM, removed the rear fuel injector clips, put it back together, bump started it and drove 50km home.
STILL faster than my friend's civic
But it was vibrating like hell (probably from the uneven compression), and backfired a LOT... huge 3-4' fireballs every shift.
Anyways.... Looks like its time for a new motor. I ripped everything off of it yesterday, and I'll pick up a j-spec this weekend and throw it in.
When I look back though, it's hard to be upset with a motor that withstood:
Overheating (5x, 3-4 times boiling the coolant)
Detonation (just none this bad)
periods with a 4000RPM idle
tuning screwups including a mixture so out of wack that the turbo glowed bright red and bubbled the paint on the hood.. at idle!
timing being 30 deg out (so bad that it wouldn't run if I touched the throttle!
Being put in by 2 17 year olds in frozen garage.

or better yet!
Turbo upgrade kit,
Good FMIC,
Good stand alone... autronic, haltech, microtech... etc..
new injectors, and a strong rebuilt brand new street ported engine!
But none the less hope you get her on the road again soon... but do you really need it done so soon if you aren't going to drive it in the winter... or are you?

WG was ported, but obviously not enough.
it sure as hell sounded like detonation...
I'm probably going the upgrade route.
I want it back on the road NOW to enjoy the rest of summer.. and fall

I dont know why you guys want your cars out in summer. I hate it. So damn hot. Summer nights, all of fall, and winter days is where its at IMHO.

Still think driving in the Winter is "Where it's at?"
Sorry to hear about the car man - I know you'll get it back on the road soon!

I actually had pretty good luck in my FB driving it in the winter.. Before I got the snows on it I spun it twice at like 5km/h, but after that it was fine!
