the iridium RX8 plugs also work, but honestly i wouldn't spend 4 times as much for the minimal benefits and their ability to foul more easily.

The platinums also work. Lifespan may be a little longer. Can't say I can tell any performance difference. About $1.25 higher per plug on Rockauto.com.

For future reference, these part numbers/explanations are documented on Mazdatrix's site, since it's such a common question over the decades...

I forgot about wires. NGK should be fine. I've used them in the past. Currently have Magnacores but only because they were given to me by someone when they got out of Rx7s. Good wires but I probably would've never paid what they cost for them. If I ever have to replace them it'll probably be with NGK's.

the magnacore wires break unsettlingly often when pulling them off, but they are supposedly lifetime warranty if you send them to be repaired.

Don't bother with NGK wires. From what I've seen, most sets these days are NOS and aren't much good anymore. Both the last two sets I had developed the "blue fuz." (Visible voltage leaks when viewed in the dark) early in their life span.

I switched to magnecor, and never looked back. Who enjoys replacing their plug wires every 10k miles? I don't. In fact, I like changing them once and never changing them again.

As for plugs, I went with NGK BUR7EQP's for both leading and trailing. Why not run platinum? It's not for "increased power." It's for longer plug life, and maximum spark for a longer period of the plugs life. Who enjoys changing their plugs more often? I don't, but that's what you'll get with the non-platinum NGK's. I'd be lucky to get 15k out of a non platinum set. Ridiculous.

Though I have the right plugs now for a while I went the opposite of you and ran all trailing. I drive mostly highway so I never had any issues. Lifespan seemed a little better. I always wanted too run a BUR8EQP but I'm not willing to pay double the price for them since rockauto doesn't have them

My car has run great with little misfires and has had NGK's for 30 years.

i've had less luck with the platinum plugs and fouling, though i do run premix at 1oz per gallon. i've also never had any issues with NGK wires. some may be new old stock, but NGK still makes wire sets since they are a wear item, so they really shouldn't be 30 years old unless you are getting from a junk retailer.. and you shouldn't run all leading plugs.
