Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep... WTF?

My 86 GXL is Beeping. Five Beeps... Pause... Five Beeps... Pause... Again and again. And then it stops. 10 Minutes later... There it is again. High pitched. From beneath the driver's side of the dash. Not the overrev/low coolant/low oil buzz. No just beeps...

Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep

My sanity is slipping. Someone please tell me what on earth is going on with this beeping. I can find no references in my Haynes or owner's Manual..

Thanks,
James

This should have been something searched. Its only been discussed 50 times.

It's the power steering, on the series 4 cars it beeps if the power steering is not working.

I don't wanna solder anymore

Wiper Switches... Warning Lights in the top of the dash... Now the PS computer??? Did Mazda use a single drop of good solder in the 2nd gen?

Oh well. Anyone got any good links for a how-to on this one?

Silly 2nd gen... I have yet to solder anything in my 80.

Not beeping 5 times if the power steering is working. Try counting again

Trust me. It was five beeps and the beeps counted five. My loving wife had the faceplate to the stereo put somewhere, so i got to listen to it the whole way to work and back yesterday. Had the faceplate today, so Howard Stern blocked it for the most part this morning, and whatever I could find this evening. On a side note, the turn signals are now failing to reset to off after making turns sometimes. Could this be related. Something read in another thread makes it seem possible, but it is 5 beeps.

Thanks again,
James

Yes the power steering uses the turn signal cancel sensor.

If it is not working then neither is the power steering. Which is why the power steering CPU is not working, and reporting the error.

BTW: the error reporting is listed in the owners manual under warnings
