Batttery relocation box?

I know this has been covered a few times as I've searched and tried to read most of the relevant threads. Also, some of the members had works in progress which may be done now and can provide additional information.

I have an Optima redtop and summit relocation kit. The problem is I cant find an area to relocate. I think this is primarily due to the size of the box. I cant move it next to the rear shock tower like I initially planned cause of the strut bar, it wont fit behind the rear seat, or securely in the rear storage area.

So my question is if theres any battery boxes out there (plastic) which are smaller and fit a bit more snuggly around the optima. If not, where did you guys relocate with this battery box? Finally, if it came down to it, id consider purchasing a hawker with smaller box. Thanks in advance.

Put it in the storage bin.

Just pull the whole bin out of it's spot and figure out a way to mount it in there.

The bottom of the storage bin isn't flat thoguh and it's actually a sack thing.

Cut the bottom of it off and mound a flat panel to the bottom.

It will keep it nice and hidden. Just make sure you vent the breather tube outside the car. You don't want to get a sniff of those fumes.

Wait. Redtops are closed I think. If so then ignore that but it'd be a good idea anyways.

I forgot to mention that I removed everything in the rear half of my car a while ago and came upon the same finding as you, that area is a bit rounded. So I also was wondering if there was something I could slightly fill it with and then secure it. I believe wormiez figured out a way to do this?

Those Summit Racing boxes are really too big to fit under the storange bins.
Go to your local boating supply shop and get the smallest box they carry.
We regularly get them from the local boating shop or *KMart*.

I REALLY need to be my write-up on this.

I went to Wal-Mart, as you mentioned In a previous thread, to source out a relocation box for my Yellow Top. They are massive.

Do you remember seeing more than one size there Ted?

I don't know how many Moroso relocation boxes are out there but a guy I know has one in his FC. He mounted it in the passenger side storage bin area BUT he removed the storage bin lid.

Yeah, there are two different sizes.
These are the black plastic ABS ones, right?
If you got a KMart locally, try them?

The ones I use take the 24F sized battery with about 2" of space left on side to side.

I think the Moroso one is pretty good but I think one of the dimensions were a bit off. Anyone else seen or used this that can chime in?

I think the Moroso one is a bit wide, so it doesn't fit too well in the storage bin?

All the damn K-Marts around here are being diminished by - you guessed It...the largest retail chain In the world Wal-Mart.

I bought a SPA battery box from Pegasus Racing supplies the middle of last year. My lazy butt hasn't been able to install it yet and relocate the battery, but my test fits showed that it will fit. To close the storage bin lid, it may need to be shimmed up just a tad.

FC3S.org also sells a relocation kit. Go to www.fcstore.com and search around.

EDIT - Here, I made it even easier: http://www.fcstore.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=1278

Thanks for the tips but I dont have storage bins so mine dimples inward at that area. Not sure if theres something I can fill it with that I can then secure the battery box to. Also, Id like to use non metallic boxes.

So no more proposed information or areas others have choosen?

Beautiful write up Ted.

And after all that time, my SPA battery box is still sitting in a cabinet filled with parts. Good thing though, cause the N/A it would have went in was stolen last December.

Informative. Doesn't seem to be very costly, either. This might be helpful with some current intake routing I'm doing.
