battery might've shorted everything...help
lemme set the back story. friend of mines has a 91 gxl he wanted to sell to me. when i got to his house, they were starting the fc up. sounded nice, did the buyers guide check up, and talked about it for a bit, and they told me the battery needed to be replaced.
fine, no problem. we " my friend and i " pulled the battery out, and took it to the local auto shop. when we brought it back home, his dad came out. and asian parents, they tend to think that they know exactly whats best, that and its kinda scary if they are mad. so you don't really want to tell them that they are doing this wrong, or this incorrectly
... so he wanted to drop the battery in himslef. he ended connecting the wrong ends to each other. saw alot of sparks and well yea. the FC didn't want to start afterwards. he kept trying to figure what went wrong, eventually he gave up and went back inside.
so now theres a myraid of problems
one, the pop up head lights... well popped up, and they don't want to come back down when the dial was turned. any ideas what went wrong here?
the dad, did blew the 100a main fuse, so we replaced that, and she fired right up.. problem now is that the security feature doesn't really kick in.
and finally the interior lights doesn't come on until the key is in the on position.
the other fuses seem fine, but i didn't check the ones under the steering colum though. should i tell my friend to check under there? or is there something else we should check?

Talking just Fuses..............in the interior, the fuses that are powered without the key being turned on, are circled in GREEN in the attached jpg. The other fuses are only powered when the key is ON or ACC or better.
About the headlights..............disconnect all the plugs from the CPU and then see if they work or not. If you don't know where the CPU is, LOOK IN THE FSM. Basically, I'd say you scrogged the CPU to death.
Tell us more about interior lights. Give me a list of the lights. Are you talking the lights in the instrument cluster don't light up no matter how much you turn the rheostat?
THEFT is inside the CPU on a series five. Unit is shot/scrogged/**** up/kaput/Bamaized.

Yeah, hooking the battery backward can wreak havoc on the electronics on these. I'd check the CPU and watch for running issues, as hooking up the battery backward has a tendency to fry the ECU.
The headlight problem coupled with the CPU, where the THEFT unit is, has been documented several times on this forum. Disconnect the CPU and the lights headlights will work again.
Cutting one simple wire (it is a simple wire, not very complex at all) in the CPU plug will *fix* the headlight problem, and the headlights will go up/down once more as normal. THEFT will NOT ever work right again. Like, Who cares about that anyway.
