Battery Cable

Hello everyone.

I recently figured a weak battery cable. The damn cable was shorting out my battery or it's too weak and won't start the flacking starter.

But the question I'm here to ask today is how to actually switch the battery cable. I was taking a look at it and it seperates and twists and turns and everything so I didn't want to mess it up. Can anyone help me out with my problem? I searched but I didn't have time to do it thoroughly since I have school tomorrow.

Thank you and good night to everyone. I'll check up on this tomorrow for any help given!

To switch the battery cable you replace it.

Perhaps you mean the battery terminal clamp? In which case, you cut the old one off and put a new one on if you don't want to replace the whole cable.

Then you will go to the dealer and buy a new one or fab one up out of aftermarket parts.

Easiest cable to use for battery cable is to order or go to a audio shop and get some car amp wire. You should have much trouble finding cable as low as 4 gauge locally.

This guy makes some really really nice cables, the turn around time is a little slow, but if you can it is worth the wait.

Yeah, 4 gauge is way to small and most of the Amp cables I've seen are really lacking in the nice jacketing department. Keep stereo cable for stereos and get some actual battery cable to use for batteries.

Personally I use 2ga Marine cable for my Alt and starter. With some nice tinned copper lugs, solder slugs, and triple lined adhesive heatshrink

You can go to any chandlery store and get what you need to make just as nice if not nicer cables with no wait. In all honesty they'll probably fit better to unless he knows exactely what the factory cut them too.

Roger that, I'll remember that. I guess not all 4-2 gauge wires are alike.

The negative cable also branches off and connects to the chassis. It does not go only to the starters large bolt.

Most people mount it on one of the engine-tranny bolts if I remember correctly.

Well you could buy one and run it too your frame location at the bottom of the drivers strut tower, but I doubt they would have one long enough to run to the tranny/engine and the frame location.

And then you would have to cut out the old cable... cut it out of the taped and wrapped harness.
