Battery/Alt/Starter Wiring

I need to replace my Battery/Alt/Starter wiring.
Any recommendations? Gauge/length/type wiring to use?
Anyone know where I can view a *simple* wiring diagram?

Last year, I replaced all the battery cables on my 90 GXL. The (+) battery connector was the original and was deformed to the point where I couldn't tighten it securely to the battery post. I didn't want unwrap the original harness, so I disconnected the original cables and ran new cables along side the existing harness. (In the future, I might redo the factory harness to include new battery cables.) I bought zinc battery terminals with wingnuts on top (Duralast DL06070), bought 2 prefabbed 49" 4 AWG cables with lugs (Duralast DW449B), and fabbed-up 8 AWG positive and negative cables with lugs. You can buy various size lugs at West Marine, but you'll need a crimper for 8 AWG cable. I decided to use 8 AWG cable (rather than 10 AWG) to handle the current requirements. The 12" 8 AWG positive cable ran from the (+) battery post to the 100 amp in fuse box next to the battery, and the 16" 8 AWG negative cable ran from the (-) battery post to one of the strut mounting bolts. It would probably be best to tape up the old dangling connector ends. I attached the 4 AWG ground cable to a starter bolt at the bell housing. I haven't done this yet, but for the alternator you will need to run an 8 AWG cable from the alternator output terminal to the other end of the 100 amp fuse. You'll probably need a cable length of about 3 feet for alt to fuse block. Since I didn't have the appropriate crimpers, I had my 8 AWG cables fabbed-up at a marine supply shop.

I purchased the 4awg cables and terminals and am sourcing 8awg and lugs. While looking online to purchase a crimper, found some articles that said that soldering the connection is better than crimping. Found some youtube vids on how to solder lugs. Gonna give that a go.
Thanks for the above. I also need to figure out the starter wiring, if you or anyone has ever replaced/repaired.
