Help an idiot change rear brake pads!

Sorry guys but I bought all new hw to put on an axle going in a different car and I don't have a picture of how the little metal clips go in the caliper and bracket, and can't find any good pictures or videos on the web. I can't see how the larger of the clips is supposed to go, and which two locations they go. Anybody got any pictures of these to show me? It would be easy if I were changing pads on an existing rear axle, I could just look at the other side if I needed. Thanks for anyone that can bail me out here.

The Y springs mounts at the top, insert the ends into the holes on the edge of the brake pads.

Looks like you're already got the inserts mounted the brake pad arms slide on.

Are the inserts the way I got them correct (especially confused about the bigger of the two inserts). Do the other two mirror them? Any pictures out there of an installed brake pad on caliper?

The piston needs to be Screwed into the caliper in order to make room for the new pads to sit on the disc..or it just won't allow everything to fit.
you need something like this: https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-a...-tool/2363_0_0

The piston appears to already be all the way in (it was a newly rebuilt caliper and bracket off Rockauto). Getting things to fit is not yet my problem. I was just not understanding how the little metal seats that the pads ride in mount--which one goes in which hole and which direction do they face. If I only had a picture this would be solved in 5 minutes. But thanks for the tip on the tool.

If there are any pic a parts or the like in your area, you might just want to go to their yard and practice.

Ha! says the man from SoCal where cars last forever and it is always nice weather!
Here (ohio) it will be in the teens again and snowing by the weekend, and rust has long claimed 80s rx7s!

Well I'm pretty sure I've got the metal clips in the correct way, but I'm still confused at the Y-springs.

Do these go ends of the Y go into the center groove of the pad? Can you put this in with the caliper attached to the bracket--I'm not seeing how. And the reman units don't appear to allow you to separate the bracket from the caliper, as it has a cover over one of the bolts. Can I just pop that cover off and there is a bolt underneath? I don't want to damage anything.

Edit Update: I pulled out one of the pads and I can see the little hole in the top of the pad that the end of the Y spring goes into. Does the other end connect on the metal tab that the opposite pad rides in and is it the one big loop or the smaller one? Looks like the intent of the spring is to push the pad away from the rotor, correct? Still not sure if I can install w/o removing the caliper from the bracket; I'll try tonite. Hopefully get some feedback from one of you on this first.

Both brake pads should have a little hole where the "y clip" goes. IT DOES NOT GO IN THE GROOVE OF THE PAD.

The caliper does come loose, take loose the slide pin bolt, it is a 12 14 mm I think cant remember, anyway pull the pin and the move the caliper up and down and it should slide off the other pin, make sure to lube when you put it back on

Ok, I got it on. Here is pic for other future idiots as to how I did it. Thanks for your comments and patience. I was able to remove the caliper from the bracket by twisting off the brass colored cap and mine had a torx bolt inside.

You were supposed to ignore the 'brass colored cap' side and remove the hex bolt on the opposite side. Then rotate the caliper (pivoting on the 'brass colored cap' side) away from the bracket and move it off.

:-)
Proving more and more the title I chose for this post was apropos. This was not intuitively obvious to the casual observer. Thanks for saving the next idiot with the correct way to do it!
