How hard is it to find and fix a bad seal from an 88 N/A motor?

I assume he's talking about apex...... If you mean apex seal, in the exhaust you should be able to hear a skip.

At any rate, to replace any internal seal, whether its a water, oil, side or apex seal, you have to tear apart ur engine..... GOOD LUCK

Thats what I figured. I'm planning on buying an 88 N/A off someone on the forum. He said the only two problems wrong with the car is it needs a new starter, and his mechanic said theres a bad seal somewhere. He's asking $1300 for the car in it's present shape. Is this worth it?

 

Well if a mechanic said a bad seal "somewhere," he probably means oil (though in most cases that still means rebuild) since most of them don't seem to know what a rotary engine is anyway. I get endless fun taking my spare rotor into shops and saying I found it lying in the driveway when my car wouldn't start and ask them what it is. Either way, if it is a rebuild in your future, the car isn't worth it unless it's in really, really good condition and you have both spare time and interest in a new challenge before it hits the road under its own power.

 

It's in good condition but I spoke with my mechanic as well and once I mentioned bad seal he immediately said "the motor is blown?" .. so I think I'm gonna just have to talk to him about the price.

 

If the mechanic says a seal is bad because oil is leaking to the ground, you may have a front cover or rear oil seal leak. If he's not sure where it's coming from, it could be many places, including oil cooler line connections, etc. If he said "seal is bad" because it burns oil, chances are the oil seals are worn (or if pre-mixing too much oil). If it's low on compression, it's probably an engine seal (non-oil).
