bad idle
i have a 89 gxl its a n/a, the problem im having is when i start the car when it cold the idle jumps to 3500-4000 rpm and sits there for a while and drops down to 2100rpm and then drops to 1500rpm and bounces back up to 1800rpm and then back down to 1500rpm and then back up, it will do this untill i drive the living crap out of it and then settles down to 900rpm or 1,000 depending on its mood, and its kinda hard to start, but has never failed to start, the car has 1 hi flow cat with stock headers and dual 2 inch straight pipe exhaust and thats the only upgrade that i know of, the car has about 178,900 miles on it the motor has about 30,000 (i have proof of this) i adjusted the tps and still nothing, i tried leaving the tps unhooked and it helped a lot but was running really rich and it stopped the idle bouncing when its cold, also the car sometimes stalls (only when the tps is hooked up) or dips really low (rpm) i hooked it up to a smog machine and the hydrocarbons was at 79ppm and everything was really good and within margin for the test and with the tps un hooked it scored 1314ppm for hydrocarbons, and the car was making O2, i took it to a rotary expert and the guy FREAKED OUT!!! he was telling me the car was bridge ported and was in excellent shape internally, personally the car lacks in torque but is pretty damn fast and according to this guy it had 3mm apex seals, also the idle is fairly steady and doesn't drop if i turn on anything (heater, high beams, ect....) you can hear the compression when its cranking so i assume its good and the car revs up ridiculously fast and has no stumble but if u try to hold it at 2,000rpm when it has no load on it, it impossible it drops to 1800 then jumps to 2200 and back down, the car has zero vacuum leaks (i tested it with a smoke machine) also i noticed when im low on gas it stalls more often and acts a lot weirder and if i take a corner in a low gear and floor it the car looses power and wont go past 4,000rpm and then revs normally when im out of the corner, plz help im getting really pissed

well i got my trouble codes and de-coded them and its telling mt that i need a new intake thermo sensor and crank angle sensor, what do u guys think? i looked at my thermo sensor and sure enough its not hooked up and its broke, is the crank angle sensor plug and play? were can i get the thermo sensor? is it cheap? and will the one off of a 88 s4 work?

ok i have a s4 engine sitting in my garage and i pulled the thermo sensor out of it and swapped it with mine and it helped a little, the weird part is the check light goes away when im accelerating and comes back when i let off the gas any ideas?

Probably have a dirty fuel sock btw, may as well change fuel filter too
no idea bout the idle, the bouncing idle maybe is the wax pellet it keeps the idle around 1,500 till its warmed up...
I doubt you got a bridge port, you'd need a standalone i think does it sound like most rotary's at idle? bridge's are like a brap brap brap

yeah it kinda sounds like brap brap, it really doesn't sound like most rotaries, personally i don't care cause im gonna build a 20b for it in a little while, anyway i played with the tps and moved it around and i mean the whole sensor and there is no check light period but it idles at like 1400 rpm and i ant get it any lower without the check light coming on and i replaced a couple of cracked vacuum lines and still nothing and did i mention the back fires sound like a shotgun going off (scared the living **** out of a little Asian girl that was walking on the side walk) also i checked a code i had and it say i need a new CAS, any ideas?

today i bought injector cleaner and drove the living hell out of it and it idles at a cool 600rpm and fairly steady but the check light is now back on and turns off when i go above 1000rpm, any ideas

yeah i gonna try to get a vid up soon, and yeah u can post ur video in this thread (luyo), also the check light isn't on any more but its still idling really inconsistently and tends to want to stall when u let off the gas and let the rpm's drop, and i tried taking it to a shop today and what a surprise they don't wanna touch it, then i took it to Mazda and they don't know whats wrong

thanx, im gonna make a vid tomorrow, it happens to me besides bad idle , when i let off the gas the car start to make little jumps when is in about 3000 rpm and down like if i was accelarating and letting of the gas....

same here the car bucks really bad at about 1500rpm for me though, im gonna try to make a video of my car this weekend and and with my friend who has a fd, he also goes to this forum his name is
