I got a used engine last month. and it turned out to be crap. ran great for 20 seconds and lost compression, has anyone got a used engine to work? i added water and my water now looks like ****!! RUST? what ya all think? are they alolways this Touchy?

 

it all depends on how well it was taken care of and stored. a properly stored engine is perfectly fine to drop in so knowing the history of the engine is a must depending on what you paid and what you expect..

not sure.. they said it ran fine... had compression.. andseemed fine... started up fine. ran fine for a short time..(20) seconds then lost a rotor! wtf..Just pissed now is all,. ill live

I don't have the cash for that right now, spent wayyyy too much on my engine/various projects and standalone. If you still have it in a month or two I might be interested, though.

 

there's never any certainty when buying used engines...especially from ebay. i bought mines from ebay for $150 and the guy i bought it from told me it had a bad seal so i knew what to expect. it's just the luck of the draw. maybe whoever sold it to u knew it was on its last leg. sorry to hear that it blew. have u taken the engine apart yet?

 

I bought mine for 150, it came with a car. It was terribly abused but I knew it and bought iit anyways. Still runs like a peach.

 

what is the proper way to store an engine anyway if its out of the car?

 

i got mine from wfrx, they said it worked. I hooked it up and rust came out from everywhere, in the water, ran on two rotors for like 20 seconds, then Failed. i dont get it. anyways i allmost give up i dont have the time or money anymore for this ****.. i spent alot of time trying to get it to work.. and its still broke and i am worn out, i cant touch one more bolt on the thing... so i guess its for sale.. 88gxl Great car. Just needs an engine. inside is nice.. outside is pretty good.. has a few dents though, Just cant deal with it anymore, i dont have the space to tear it apart here.

 

Do a rebuild. What would be stoppping you. Don't give up so easily man. These cars can be very frusterating, but when you go tearing around in it you'll wonder why you ever thought about giving up. I thought about making mine into a partscar a few times. Well, now it is because someone hit it head on. I got another and will do a transplant to it. Just pull it and rebuild. I know mine will be worth it when done. I have a S5 GXL that has 52,000 on the clock. It's going to the darkside via 6pi turbo. I have many other plans for it as well.

 

what was the Ebay item number for the engine you bought?

 

well the origional engine on my TII went in december...then an ebay motor was dropped in...a compresion test in june showed 110 all across so that was good...but as of right now there are signs of low compression (i.e. rough idle when hot and hot start) so ima do another test soon and see whats up...

 

if you do sell it...would u be able to ship it to fla?
