Bad day just keeps getting worse, busted coolant hose under oil filter
So in my 88 GXL the coolant buzzer came on today while driving to the supermarket, I was really confused because I just added a lil last week because temp hit 100something and the overflow bottle was low...next thing I notice is temp gauge rising from 1/4 to close to 1/2...
so I freaked out, pulled into strip mall parking lot killed engine while rolling into the spot, pop hood and theres coolant spraying out of the hose going to the engine...
I dont know what the name of the hose is, but it was behind the spark plugs going into the block, its a thick rubber hose and has clamps on each end of it...
so the question is did the hose just crack because its freakin hot outside (today was like 95ish) or did something worse happen, I'm very pessimistic and thought the coolant seal was screwed, but after letting it cool I opened the rad cap started up for 2 seconds and looked for bubbles, but alas there was nothing...
so is this hose a bitch to replace, whats the proper name for it and how can I be sure that nothing worse happened?
I'm really freaked out by this, and this really is the diarrhea on top of a shitty day
any help greatly appreciated, thanks guys

Lives on the Forum
That is the infamous left side heater hose, the bane of 1st and 2nd gen rx7s the world over...It's not hard to replace, removing the oil filter helps (cover the tower opening)...Mazda dealers will have them, along with Mazdatrix, about $28 bucks apiece...

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
As I have posted in the past, that hose should be a regular maintence item. If you leak oil when changing the filter, or have a leaking oil filter mount, then that hose gets saturated with oil, and then swells and eventually bursts.
But it sure is a good thing you had your coolant level buzzer working!!!! too many people want to just rip it out... those people would be rebuilding or buying a new motor.
And I updated your title of the thread to actually have the problem in it.

thanks mark and wayne, I'll head to mazda dealer tomorrow I really appreciate the help
first bits of sunshine on this day
you don't think anything serious is wrong right..also the bubbles in the radiator is the right way to check for busted coolant seal correct
I was checkin the hose didn't see anything broken, but then it started raining so I ran inside, hopefully tomorrow when I take it off I can see something useful...

happend to me to however it was just a little leak right around that part so I fixed it and bam, problem solved. tightened my fc3s.org pedestal and that fixed the oil leaking on the heater hose problem. Looks kinda tricky to do but one you get in there it is pretty simple. Good luck
