Should I trade my vert?

I've been considering trading my convertible Rx7 for a coupe rx7 (assuming I could find someone who would want to trade and had a coupe in good condition). I love my car, it runs great handles great, but it just doesn't perform as well as it should. It's too heave for how weak the motor is and it could be awhile before i can afford any power upgrades.

So I'm looking for opinions, should I keep the vert or try to find a coupe?

If you're wanting to trade it because it's too slow, just get a TII .

The vert and the coupe are two different beasts... you need to decide if you like the coolness and timeless style vs the very little extra get up and go and convenience.

And if it is any help... girls much perfer going in the topless FC, than the coupe.

I love the vert personally. so i'm saying stay with that. but all in all it's your car.

What year vert is it? if it's an 88 you shoudl throw a 13B-T engine in it because you want more power right? and the 88 ECU has the ability to run the turbo engine. Pretty cool huh? I just learned that recently so i wanted to show off a little. but if you think it's underpowered just do a little modding and don't worry about trading to a car you're not exactly familiar with (i mean sombody else's car)

Good luck!
Matt

Don't get me wrong, I love my car. I'm just really into speed and it bothers me that there are cars i feel i should keep up with.

...maybe i just need to get my car tuned, fuel injectors cleaned and at least CAI. And yes Icemark, that really does help!!

i got a vert as well
i like it fast too
so i stuff a turbo into that bad boy

vert is like 200 lbs heavier than a coupe, drag coef is coupe .31 vs vert .33 these are the only factor you can not change
so if you want it faster either get on a diet or bump more horses into your car
but if you want to do topspeed runs then go get a 3rd gen, nothing beats the .29 that it got

i have owned turbo II's and now a TurboII vert....I love my vert more than any other car I have ever owned....Convertable driving is more of a lifestyle/attitude thing...even though my car is FAST, I still would prefer the vert if it were NA...i would just upgrade what I could..here is the bst way to find out if you can live without the vert...from now on for the next month or so you have to leave the top up, no matter how nice it is..if you can handle that, then you dont need the vert....but if you find yourself WANTING to drop the top, then you NEED the vert

I dont own a vert but I agree with what Travelintrevor said. My cousin had one awhile back and his dad made him take that little test. My cousin failed so he kept the vert for around 6 more months. He then sold it and still even to this day he talks about how he would like it back. Plus if you want speed why not upgrade the exhaust with headers and a catback? Im sorry if you already have this done. Theres a vert around here with Racing beat exhaust from the headers to the mufflers, cost him abit but it aint slow. I saw him smoking a stock coupe.

I have a vert and I was thinking same thing a while a go. But I decided to go with my heavy vert because if I get a coupe I need to spend money for mods I have now again. And there is a chance that something will go wrong and I need more money to fix it - it of course might happen to my vert but mine s good shape and runs pretty well right now and I believe chances are rare.... So, keeping my vert let me think of what mod it makes my 13B NA beefy

My wife & I just bought an '88 vert. I had planned on driving it to work & back while I overhaul our '73 Porsche 914. She drove the RX-7 around town yesterday, I took our Suburban to work - and when I got home - she said "hi honey, how's your day" I said fine. She said, "great, now you better get in the garage and finish your car 'cause your not gettin' this car back, it's just too much fun!!!
Odd... I haven't been able to get her to drive our teener since she crunched the gears 4 years ago. My opinion: keep the 'vert. Chicks dig 'em.
I'll keep my teener too.
Here's a pic of my true love:

keep the vert, no power then swap a TII motor in it... plus IMO a vert is just a lot more fun. Plus how many FC verts do you see? There are only like maybe 2 or 3 where I'm at and I'll be the only one with a TII in it

I agree with the folks who favor the vert. I have owned 2 coups (both '90's) and now have a pristine '90 vert. The vert draws many more looks than the coups ever did. Icemark's "timeless" comment was right on. If you want to mod for speed go the coup. If you plan on caring for it and having it a while keep the vert. Same year same condition the vert will fetch more than a coup.

Keep the vert, and do the repairs to the car that you listed. Those improvements should get you at least a better running vert, then you might could do some small upgrades like headers and intake to get a few extra hp while still enjoying no roof...

Here's a list of fixes i need (starting with causmetic because they're really bugging me)
1. Both fenders probably need to be replaced
2. Front bumper along with fenders
3. Paint.
4. Top has 2 rips and is starting to look ragged
5. Seats need to be redone.
6. New exhaust that i might actually get away with in CO
7. CAI
8.Turbo or SC (not sure which yet)

...i think that's it. A good 4K-5K of cost i think.
