Backfire=flames?

Does backfire mean flames? I had gutted cats, backfires hard, no flames. Now I have Bonez cat, backfire little, still no flames

Take off the cat and put a testpipe in, a catalytic converter kills flames. Also a down/midpipe makes better flames than gutted cats.

not necessary for my car,
when i like heel and toe downshift from 3rd to 2nd, it sometimes just backfire, sometimes it's just flame
most of my buddies that run with me on caynon said my car throws out flame when downshift, and they told me after the run, and i didn't recall hearing any backfires during the run at all

2 nights ago when i was running, my friend said my car had a lot of backfires, but no flames, just that my exhuast light up a bit

but when i am pulling till redline and let it decelerate (stil in gear), definitely backfire and flames, i used to do it all the time, but it's kinda a waste of gas, so i stopped doing it

dp and striaght pipe and apexi n1 single
low boost

it depends on how big of a backfire.
i backfire all the time, but only the high rpm, really loud bang throws flames.
and OH ARE THEY GREAT.

I was out crusing w/ my buddy's one night and I was in front of his truck throwing flames at it, when we stopped another guy in the truck asked if I had spark plugs in my exhaust. I said "no it's a rotary", he just sat there w/ a puzzled look on his face .

i shoot flames out of my stock dual ehaust with just a ghetto midpipe
pretty good sized ones too i might add.
its kinda funny when i pull out to pass someone and the next thing they see is a big fireball in their face.
