i would leave it on, so that the idle quality with accessories on is better.

but my idle is the same ( fluctuating) with it plugged in or with it unplugged... so why would it be bad to take it off?

Mine is the same way... I pull the BAC plug off and nothing happens. No change in idle like the book says it should.

Your BAC probably just needs to be cleaned.

First, check to see if in fact works or not. Unplug the BAC connector, and apply 12V to one of the pins on the BAc and ground the other, it should click when the circuit is completed. If it doesn't click, clean it with PB Blaster or WD-40. When you take it off the UIM, you find a small hole about 3mm in dia. Put the small straw in there and spray until the stuff comes out clean. You see how much crud is in there. Once it's all clean, apply 12V again, if it still doesn't click, keep cleaning and decide how much time you want to spend on trying to get it to work. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get mine to click to no avail. I bought one that works and threw the other one away. I wanted mine to work because I hope to have the A/C fixed in the spring. I want my car to be fast, but not at the expense of melting inside my car on hot summer days, and the 20 or so lbs I'd be saving by removing the system doesn't seem to be worth it to me.

In the end, it's entirely up to you, the car works with or w/o it, but idle adjustments will need to be made when you remove it.

You can if you want, but your reasoning's a bit backwards. If you have a rough idle, and unplugging the BAC valve makes no difference, it's obviously now working properly. Instead of removing it, fix it! My BAC works perfectly, and I can run all accessories (A/C, fan, lights, rear demister, wipers, stereo, etc) at the same time and still have a smooth 750rpm idle. You won't be able to do that without a BAC.
