Not really. I did my air pump last weekend, and all was good. However, make sure you only take off the BAC if you are planning on removing the A/C as well. If you don't, the engine will probally die when you try to turn on the A/C!!!!!

The BAC valve is only operating at idle, right? I have no Power steering or A/C, so could it be ditched?

Bob,

Yes, you should be ok removing the BAC valve, but just in case, just unplug the electrical connection to it and drive it as you normally would. If everything works ok, and you don't have issues stalling, you're good to go removing it entirely.

I'm in the same spot, but I already have issues with stalling. I have removed my A/C and want to remove my air pump. Right now I have my idle set to 1500 and it never stalls, but I do use more gas.
I'm going to unplug my BAC too, and take off my air pump soon.

Thanks for the tips

thats odd. Check for vacuum leaks, try reconnecting the bac and cleaning it first, and check tps.

take the hose that comes off the nipple on the block and goes to the back of the tb. take the hose going from the front of the tb and goes to the bac. Try and spluice the nipple coming off the block into the hsoe leading to the BAC.
Basically, coolant flows from the wtaer pump housing, through the bac, throught the TB, and then out the TB into the block. Eliminate the TB from this flow system.
Although, you can remove this entire flow system.

bac, coolant

The coolant doesn't go thru the bac it's actually just mounted to it by a little seperate manifold type thingy. You can loosen the 2 screws that mount it to the Bac valve and leave it in tact if you wish to remove your Bac valve. Gary

nobody makes a block-off plate for the BAc that I can find. I'm told to make one out of 1/8" sheet metal. You can add a valve to adjust idle as well. I think you just have a manual BAC then though wouldn't you?
