Question Bac

Just a question.

I can't remember where I heard this but I have heard of people removing the BAC valve. Has anyone done this and if so what were the side effects?

I once had a vacuum leak at the gasket for the BAC valve and my car had never started better but that's all it would do, start. If I removed the BAC I would have the same problem would I not? With the BAC gone is there anywhere else the engine can get air from at idle?

Oh btw I have an '86 n/a with the 3800 problem (I hope to fix that this weekend)

Uh, I'm not quite sure what you're asking here. Can you remove the BAC? Yeah, sure, Mazdatrix sells a block-off for it. Do you want to? Not if you have A/C, P/S, a stereo, or good headlights. Will your car start/idle without it? Yeah, though it'll take some adjustment.

Good luck on the 3800 RPM fix, btw.

I am assuming that you are mentioning the A/C, P/S, etc due to the load at idle, well I do have all of these things minus the A/C. Will removing the BAC make it idle rough? and isn't there an idle circut in place sufficient enough to bypass the BAC, or am I way off base?

The BAC compensates for engine load at idle, yes. Will it make the idle rough? Quite possibly. Most likely, the car's idle will drop very low when you've got the clutch in and are turning, for instance. Or when you're sitting at a stoplight with your headlights on and you turn your stereo up.

Really, there's no good reason to rid yourself of the BAC. It only helps the idle, and doesn't rob any horsepower. Keep it.

The BAC and most of the solenoids are to manage the idle speed. If you don't mind idleing at 1200RPM (where the rotary has some torque) you can pull them all.

so, let me make sure i got this straight. If you have no power steering and no A/C, like my new project car, removing the BAC will do no harm?
