Axe the hatch?

Anyone done anything to very effectively rattleproof the hatch?

My 88GXL has two 10" subs with about 500watts.
Acoustically the car sounds awesome but the damn hatch is kinda rattley, its really noticable outside the car.

I have replaced the weatherstripping about 6 months ago and it fixed it for a while, but now the problem has returned and the stripping is crushed down funny and not soft at all at points.

I dont use the hatch at all i just want the rattle gone.
Has anyone fought with this problem and had good results for effectively silencing that bitch?

Completely sealing the hatch might be your only option..as in welding it shut.....

get sound deadening for your hatch, it will get rid of it if it's done right.

Yeah theres the real problem, i thought about using some fast set adhesive on it, like the stuff you use on mouldings. But then i got thinking.. what if i dont get it on fast enough or evenly.. what happens when it starts to break down.

I dont wanna do anything that could very likely make the problem worse over time.
I used sound deadener in the doors but in the hatch i think it would fall apart, it will eventually in the doors too but not nearly as fast.

But I dunno.. i'm just trying to get some of your experiences, if enough people say it works ill try it.

maybe put some rubber gasket material between the hinge and the frame and the latch and the frame?

i think you can adjust the latches down slightly? so that the hatch shuts "tighter" and that might quit the rattle

THis is so ghetto, i hate to even mention it... but it works......

Wrap several turns of electrical tape around the lock loop on the hatch, right in the middle where they go into the latches, wrap it tight as hell...

it keeps the latch from jiggling metal to metal against the loop.

Also... Look at the lift struts.. if the joints are worn out the rattle like hell.

The electrical tape rips off after a few open/close cycles. I used to set a peice of felt in the latch back in my audiophile days.

Yeah, but he said he never even used the hatch, so I don't think thats a problem.

Another solution, hugs, not subs, kids...

But the tape might work, too.
