ask your local electroplating shop if they can do zinc plating.

anodizing is used for aluminum components, harder metals usually are electroplated with something like zinc or nickel to keep rust away. zinc is that gold color and nickel is more like, well, a nickel.

Here's another pretty cool vid. According to this, the 1st gen was a turbocharged 13b and this car is a PP'd N/A.

I can't wait to see the finished beast, rx74wd

People can say what they want, but that car has fully earned its right to sit in a museum once restored. Lot of history there. I'm just glad to see someone not letting it continue to rot.

Which Transmission was it?

I was thinking that there was a quick change up front modified as a semi IFS.. But an Alpha style.. nice concept.. and a Rare (in the states) RX-3 Diff..

Had a Racing RX-3 for 10 years and never ran across a original Diff center.. mine had a S4 with a drive shaft spacer when I bought it.

My youngest (16) was questioning the difficulty of a 4WD conversion and I was showing him the long list of people wanting to.. and the few who have. No I wont be doing it... but was curious on the tranny.. and what transfer to move power to the front...

Thanks For posting and keeping us up to date on a lovely piece of history.

Amazing... How would one go about skinning a tube frame car like this?? Are they the stock steel panels that were carefully removed, or composites?

Composites... pulled off a factory car.. or made specifically for the class (whatever widebody width for that tire width/chassis width)

Usually there is the tubeframe/chassis.. and then small diameter tubes that are sacrificial in a crash, that hang the bodywork. The have Dzuss fastners most often, that hold the panels to the various attachment points.
Zero structural factor.. 100 percent keep wind out of places its not supposed to go.

Not that I know anything about the 323 GTX... but I have read this whole thread and the little 4wd gtx never came into discussion. No one has ever tried to swap that drivetrain into an RX7?

Because the 323 GTX is/was a front wheel drive (based) car. In order to go that route, you'd have to do like the thread already showed and build your own chassis, then hollow out an Rx7 and wrap it around your $200k custom frame.

And you'd end up with an Rx7 that... just wasn't.

Ahh... note taken. I'd love to see an FB with subaru awd in it. My winter car is an 02 Legacy GT, had studded snow tires for the past 5 years (overkill I know). I couldn't even explain to you the capabilities of that car in the snow =o
