Awd Rx-7

http://mrec.rotary.net.nz/millen/millen.htm

Instead of bringing the old thread back to life, there's a new one. I was looking around and found this. First half of the pics show a 13B and the other half are of a 20B.

That is pretty cool but I'd rather have a rwd.

+1

Twofer 01-11-06 08:29 PM

That's pretty clever. Look at the picture of the drivetrain. Comming off the transmission there's a forward drive shaft that goes to a front diff.

^^^nah didnt notice^^^LOL!! its wat this whole thread is about!!

so maybe I'm blind but how can you tell the 20b is awd?

gxl90rx7 01-11-06 09:29 PM

AWD kicks ass...

RX-7's kick ass...

20B's kick ass...

The perfect combination

swanton187 01-11-06 09:48 PM

that has to be fun.....well atleast it looks fun

Well, this pic is of a turbo 20b. (You can see the 3 ROTAR throttle body.)

http://mrec.rotary.net.nz/millen/s3400165.jpg

And the paint looks blue. This pic is different from the white/brown/red car above and has a sticker that says AWD on the front.

http://mrec.rotary.net.nz/millen/rmrx7.jpg

Not exactly conclusive, but real racers don't usually slap stickers on to increase horsepower. :D

vipers 01-11-06 11:27 PM

its a damn shame to see what the re amemiya car looks like now:( she was a stunner in her glory days...now she is just rotten.....:(:(

and thats not the "true" drivetrain setup on rod millins car..... those pics of the drivetrain laying on the ground show a straight axle diff setup, whereas the actual rally car had an IRS setup

CompuBob 01-12-06 12:11 AM

I have a brainstorm.
B2600's use the R type transmission, found in TII's, I believe the 4x4 tranny is the same except with a transfer case for the front wheels, swap a 13B bellhousing onto the 4x4 transmission drop it into a rx7, obviously you'll have to modify the floor pan probably.. but it should bolt up.
unless the 4x4 tranny is totally different. I'll have to look it up.
or if that dosent work.. just do up a 2wd or 4x4 rotary B2600 :D the bellhousings swap right in, flywheel is the same, as well as the clutch.

GodSquadMandrake 01-12-06 01:16 AM

Dude that is insane!

http://mrec.rotary.net.nz/millen/millen9.jpg

I have never seen that before. That's like the perfect solution to weight distribution problems. The number one problem with an AWD car is the engine is too far forward.

Because that's the car Rod Millen used to win the 1991 Pikes Peak Hillclimb Open Class. It's a very well-known car (although apparently not by anyone in this thread).

Kiwi Rod Millen campaigned a 4WD 1st Gen with a 13B PP, then a 4WD 2nd Gen first with the same motor and then with a 20B turbo. It was sold to RE-Amemiya in Japan who modified it extensively for circuit racing. It was bought by a NZ rotary workshop (down the road from me) where it sat untouched under a cover for a long time. I saw it in this state 9-10 months ago. It was for sale on eBay a while ago but I don't believe it sold. This has all be posted before BTW...

Anybody even dreaming of a 4WD FC needs to have a close look at those pictures and then go have a close look at your car. Unless you're prepared to replace the entire front structure of the car you haven't got a chance in hell.

riceburner1r2001 01-12-06 05:31 AM

from what i was told the fbs were sitting upstairs at the shop just collecting dust undercover :(

matts86fc3s 01-12-06 07:11 PM

take a look CLOSELY at the picture...... notice """2""""" shifter levers...hhhmmmmm, iwhat could the other one be for????..... also note the protruding slab of aluminum that is barely noticable behind the oil filter.....thats where the d-shaft goes to.....

and this isnt a 4x4...so there probubly wouldnt be a giant transfer case...most awd cars have the transfer case built into the main transmission

at least do some reasearch before you post stupid ass comments! dank'u cum ugain

matts86fc3s 01-12-06 07:41 PM

my bad, lol, that huge MAZDA oil filter was in the way... ok, so that is pretty damn bad ass... at first glance it looked like someone just put a shift lever there and a front ifs setup there with a driveshaft attached.... my mistake... i want one now

ramses666 01-12-06 07:52 PM

So...what do I have to do to get a 20B AWD FC3S? Anybody got a write-up on this?!?! Maybe after this my truck buddies would get off my @$$ about my street car.

Ramses666

lol...there is no write up.....to my knowledge, its only been done 2 times, and both were complete 1-off creations...... if you need a write up to do something like this, then your gonna fail miserably if you try it! not to mention the astronimical cost, and labor........ unless your a master fabricator, or have an engineering degree..... get that silly thought out of your head

Terrh 01-12-06 10:05 PM

this is the first not-retarded AWD rx7 thread I've ever seen!

those pics are wonderful, wow...

That actually looks like a b2600 part... HMM.

it also doesn't look like a /ton/ of floorpan work would be required - obviously front subframe, hub and steering work would.

Maybe you know 4WD's (or maybe not) but you clearly don't know shit about Mazda racing history. Did you think my post was all made up? Next time go do some research before calling fake.

Go back and read the last paragraph of my previous post. Read it until it sinks in...

yes, I think you've said it all.

and now I think it's time to bring back the guess this car thread...or maybe a new one, one with cars' history?!?!?!?
