AutoZone Pilot Bearing Puller - Who's Used It?

I just rented an autozone pilot bearing puller for monday when i get to try again at getting that little bastard out.

I was wondering who else has used this puller... and your experience with it?

I used the AutoZone puller and it worked just fine. I even put the bearing in another car.

It’s the slide hammer type puller right?

yeah, its slide hammer and came with 4 different sized puller heads... seems like only two of them would be able to fit inside the bearing... im guessing the larger of the two would be better

does anyone else know of any stores that rent pullers, basicaly i HAVE to get this done on monday

It is not this:

which is the tool pictured on autozones site (maybe what they used to give out)

It looks more like this:

The two smaller ones look like they will fit inside the bearing. Does anyone have experience with THIS tool?

i've used it to pull the pilot bearring.....none of the attachments fit quit right. one is close enough to use if you pull the bearring out at an angle.

That's the one.

I don't see why everyone has such a hard time with it. Mine came out strait, first try.

I can't remember which head I used though.

I used an autozone puller and it wasn't easy. Here's the one I used.

Had to sharpen the end of the puller and it took about 20 times. Even then the inner race and bearings came out after about 15 whacks and I was left with the outer race still in there.

Ended up taking a dremel to the outer race to weaken it and then a few more whacks with the puller and it finally came out.

Scott

p.s. For free I'm not complaning, looks like that newer set would do a better job.

Used the Puller today, (this is the slap hammer with 4 heads) Going from smallest to largest, I used the second head. Bearing came out no problem, first try.

For free, I would definately reccomend this tool.
