Product review: KYB AGX w/ Eibach Prokit

Well I finally got my suspension delivered. For those of you who dont know about the setup it is KYB AGX (4 way adjustable in the front and 8 way in the rear) and EIbach Progressive springs. Sorry guys no pictures I coulndt find my digicam.

Install was really easy with an impact gun (I used an electric one from Harbor Freight) and spring compressors borrowed from my neighbor.

Procedure for REAR
1)Jack up the car and put it on jackstands
2)Remove rims
3)Remove speaker covers and take off the 4 14mm (I think) nuts inside the speaker tower
4)Remove the 2 17mm nuts at the bottom of the shock.
5)Push the 2 long bolts out through the bracket and shock.
6)Pull shock out from under car.
7)Remove 17mm nut on top of strut (be careful the spring is compressed)
8)Pull out the dust shields/bump stops, etc.. and save for installation in new strut spring.
9)Assemble new strut and spring with things mentioned in step #8 (if you are not sure of the order of parts look at the other strut you have not taken apart yet.
10)Use spring compressor to compress the spring.
11)Put on 17mm nut and tighten
12)Install in reverse.

Procedure for FRONT:
Pretty much the same as the rears.
Just remember to ziptie the brake lines to the strut.

Post Install Review
Car handled alot better. Before with the stock suspension when taking a hard corner the car would sway outward and feel like understeer. Now the car handles like its on rails. No noticable chassis roll. The car more noticeable lower in the front than in the rear. The fender gap in the front grew smaller than the gap in the rears did. No tires rubbing with the stock TII wheels and Yokohama ES 100s 225/50. Overall very satisfied with the purchase but I wish the rear was a little bit lower.

Thanks for the review. I've already ordered my setup (same as yours). It should arrive this week. I'm also replacing all my bushings, and installing a competition from diff mount+LSD, so this should be a dramatic difference.

Thanks guys. Keep the comments/questions coming.

Also, for those of you with the same suspension set up as me, what settings do you have for street driving and track? As of right now I have the rears set on 4 and the fronts set on 3. Feels a little stiff but I think 7 or 8 would be too much for bumpy city roads.

Exact same setup as me, I'm even running 225/50/15 Yoko ES100s. Basically I was alittle hesitant to crank up the stiffness, but having them maxed out on the street isn't too unbearable, but it might be bad for the chassis on public roads. I drive around mostly on low settings unless I know I'm doing some spirited driving, and adjustment is quite easy.

With maximum stiffness, I can barely push the car down with my hands. Very little body-roll.

the eibachs are progressive and have at least one dead coil...you can cut that one coil off the rear at the same spot for both springs and lower the car a bit more without changing the rate of the spring or suffer adverse handling. be careful though you probably should have gotten the ground control coilover kit with eibach 2.5 inch diameter springs and adjustable ride height for $399

The dead coil is for better streetability. You won't feel the small road bumps as much, but the rest of the coils are stiffer to get good handling when driven hard. So basically the springs won't be as harsh on the road compared to non-progressive springs.

Where would I order that for $399?

Give me a few days to get some pix. I need to find my digicam and also want to shoot the car in the same position as the picture before the new suspension.

The drop is suppose to be a ,9" drop, but it seems to be alittle less if you are replacing sagging stock springs.

Bdoty311 good to know someone else is running the same settings as me.

Also for those with my same setup what other suspension components would you recommend for a weekend car/occassional track car. Anti sway bars, strut bars, rear steer toe eliminators? Any specific order I should do these in?

Jon88SE is correct. The Eibach's have a dead coil section. I've spoken with others who use eibach's "progressive" springs. You CAN cut the dead coil(s) (equally on each side) to effectively lower the car, without harming your current stability.

Warning : I take no responsibility for damages cause to your vehicle or harm done directly to you. Suspension components are very dangerous. So is altering your vehicles ride capability's. Be carful.

On that note : I've effectively cut 2 coils (dead) from my rear eibachs, and a full coil from the front eibach's.

GC coilover kit does NOT include struts/shocks. it's 399 for their quality sleeves/perches and eibach 2.5 inch race springs in pretty much any rate you can imagine. I told them I drive primarily on the street and enjoy the autoX or club day at limerock - they chose the rates for me I use KYB non adjustables with great success (lifetime warranty as well). they have more than enough compression to control the ultra stiff eibachs yet arent as harsh as koni (or expensive hehe). next set will be AGX.

How much more would it drop the car? KYB doesn't recommend dropping it too much, because it could damage the shock.

i'd like to see pics of the rear. i'm thinking AGX+RB springs, but as of now, my rear has about 4 inches of gap when i park in the driveway. the car elevated when i put the parking brake on, it's wierd.

How much harsher would you say this setup has made your car going over bumps and things in the city at the city setting you use?

Such as, Do you slow down more for speedbumps and feel every pebble and crack moreso then before?

Thanks

I still have it set on 3 front/4 rear. AS for city driving it is bearable but you can feel almost every bump. I havent tried anything stiffer yet but its comfortable enough for me. My gf doesnt like it very much though.

Thats kinda what I was worried about, I'm designing this car to be more of a cruiser then a real all out preformance car. I'm wondering if you tried triving the car with it on its softer/softest settings, and how it fared then?

nope not yet but I might take it out for a spin later this week and change the settings to the lowest. I dont daily drive my car and weather in SF was pretty crappy today so it might not be until the weekend that I do this.
