autometer boost gauge lights

Hey all

i installed my autometer boost gauge last night and it works like a charm reads @5.5psi. but what i would like to know is what wires to splice, and or area to connect for the back light. i was thinking of putting it in parralle with one of the bulbs in the dash. but wasnt sure, what did you do?

I don't remember the colr of the wire, but thats exactly what I did. I actually traced one of the cables coming out of the lights switch, the one for the parking lights.

You could just run the backlight with power and have the light on all the time. I do this with my autometer z series lights (clear light didn't use the color things) and during the day it doesn't even look on.

Or you could use the cig lighter light power feed, that turns on when you turn the lights on. Or just get a multimeter and start testing wires with lights on/off to see which get power when you turn the lights on.

Personally, I like my gauges to dim with the rest of the lights on the dash.

Grab the trusty Haynes manual, and look in the wiring diagram for the wire colour that goes from the dimmer to the dash lights. Memory says it's red/green, but VERIFY THAT before you do anything.

Now, connect one side of your bulb to that wire, and the other side to ground. You can put about 4 extra bulbs on this circuit before you have to start worrying about overheating the switch.

I just hooked up my illumination wire from the cig lighter bulb wire. It lets me dim my gauges and you dont have to search for the correct wire for the dimmer switch.

yup, in parallel with the cig lighter bulb. Actually, i cut off the bulb, and have two gauges running in parallel off those wires.

I have the autometer gauge, it works, don't know how accurate it is. I took the little red cap that came with it, put it on the bulb and it's pretty dam close to the stock gauge colors, almost looks stock. Mine isn't set to dim though, I'll have to do what Aaron cake said.

i think its very accurate for what it is; stock S4 TII is only suppose to bosst up to 5.5 right? because it hits it almost exactly

also before i get everything set up i have to go and get more nylon tubing because its a bit of a strech for what came with the gauge. i'll also paint the tube black (the part that is in the engine bay) for a cleaner look.
