I have a 91 RX-7 (duh) auto non turbo and the damn thing just doesn't want to take off anything after 2000rpm and it is good to go. If anyone can help me out with this please do. I'm tired of guys in hopped up honda's taking me off the line.

there isn't anything you can do except convert yours to a 5-speed that's what i did it made all the difference in the world. You intrested in buying mine? Or maybe trading plus some cash.

 

Have you tried revving it up in neutral and dropping it into 1st?? That should help if you have power after 2000rpms.

 

I have the same problem. You were better off with a Manual. But i dont know what u can use. Maybe a little nitrous oxide might help. I also have this problem but have yet not found a solution.

If you can powerbrake to 2000 rpm in first, hit this when you let off the brake.

 

if i hold the brake it revs to about 2000 and thats it no spinning tires no smoke nothing. it just holds at that rpm

Umm...

Neutral drops are about the absolute stupidest thing you can do in an automatic.

If you're out to kill your transmission, fine, but do NOT ever do a neutral drop if you want it to run right.

Sorry for the bad advice. Ive never owned an auto and Ive heard thats the way to go for good launches. Well anyways I guess i need to tell my friends to stop doing that.

if you dont convert to a 5speed, get a stall converter, i'd say about 3000 would be sufficient, then you can stall the b*tch up to 3000 rpm and then launch like a ****

 

Converter is the best way to go. Higher stalls adds to tranny heat so you should add an additional trans cooler and do a good ATF flush(synthetic recommended).
Neutral drops break automatic transmissions if it doesn't bake them first.

Either that, or mod the hell out of the NA so that you can easily catch up with cars that 'take you off the line'.

Also, if you want to spend money, get a better set of rear gears. I believe that the NA autos had 3.909's in 1991. The vert auto had 4.10s in 1991. There were also 4.3's used with the GTU in other years. Most 5-speeds NA's had 4.10's.

 

Around how much money would it cost to convert your auto into a 5-speed?

 

It all depends on where you are and who you get to do it and where you get your parts really
i can get one done for around a grand plus parts here near new orleans.
