Automatic Seatbelt shenanigans

I searched but couldn't find this specific problem.

Six months ago I had my seatbelts replaced on the factory recall. They were only opening about half way and the tracks were filled with crap. After that both sides worked pretty well.

Now once again they're acting up, but it's primarily the driver's side belt. It either refuses to open when the door is open (engine on and off) or decides to freak out and open and close repeatedly regardless.

Is there a switch somewhere that controls this based on the door ajar sensor? These antics resemble a mechanical switch that's fallen apart.

Thanks.

The auto seatbelt system is just pathetic. It will fail again and again. Just take it back in and have them fix it again, they are required to fix it for free every time it breaks. They might try to say it's already been done, but they have to fix it for the life of the vehicle, so if it's still on the road they have to fix it.

It seems that it never will open if the engine is running but the passenger side does. I was hoping that there'd just be a sensor somewhere that I could swap from the passenger side to the driver's so that I'd at least be able to drive it without strangling myself.

Option 1: Buy an S4.

Option 2: Remove engine/drive-train and all wiring, and install in S4 shell.

Option 3: Install custom/aftermarket seat belt setup and rip out mouse belt system.

Option 4: Take the car back and forth to Mazda enough times for them to learn your name.

I chose option 1.

i'm getting my seat belts replaced by mazda tomorrow, the recall should remove the mouse belts and replace them with manual belts. why replace something that is known to break with something that is know to break.

with that being said put s4 belts, putting aftermarket harness will require a roll cage.

Option #5 is a real pain for S5 cars that had black interiors. You either have to paint some S4 trim or somehow track down trim from a non-US car that didn't have the auto seat belts.

Option #6 is to just get them in the fully back position and fasten two belts every time you get in the car.

#6 is currently what I'm doing.

I'm still curious about the electrical setup for them though. Last night I thought it might be neat if you took away the door sensor crap and linked them to the lap seat belts. Lap belt on: Auto belt closes. Lap belt off: auto belt opens.

This of course assumes they are in working condition and are just retarded, like mine.

I installed the S4 manual belts in my black interior S5 using the stock panels.
It wasn't that difficult (although it does take some time).
S4 interior plastic doesn't really even fit into a S5...I suppose it could be done (I obtained a full set of S4 plastic before I started but quickly realized it wouldn't work very well) but it was much simpler to use the original parts.
