Automatic N/A malfunction!
So i was driving about 150 Miles from my town to another on winding mountain roads. Well, on the way there, only about an hour into the drive, i stop cuz there's construction...and smoke starts billowing out from UNDER my car...I thot it was bizzarre, so i pulled over and looked and didnt see nething wrong. THe car was runnin a little hot so i just let it cool down and it started right back up smooth and i drove the rest of the way. Now, on my way BACK i had a similar problem..but worse. This was all the same day mind you. So i'm cruisin at like 70mph on teh same roads. All of a sudden my idle starts getting higher, thend dropping down. (between 1500 and 200) and my whole car was kind of jerking as i drove. So i pulled over and again, smoke from the bottom of the car. I popped the hood and smoke was coming out from behind the engine where the tranny is. Well, i let it cool down again and started it up...and it started but it immediately started idling up and down again. I checked the tranny fluid to find that it was BONE DRY. Nothign showed up on the dipstick when i pulled it out, even when the car was warm. I had my friend bring me some ATF from the closest store. I put like 1.5 quarts in and the jerking and stuff stopped. And i was able to limp home. But when i got home the smoke was there again. My question is, where would my car be leaking and how can i fix it? I checked again this morning, and its definitely tranny fluid coming out. THe dipstick shows that there is still about 1/2 full of fluid. Meaning its a leak that gets worse when driven. Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah both times i checked it i had the engine running.
It's pretty bad...its starting to soak the underside of my car.
Any suggestions on how to deal with it?

It just so happens i have 2 manual transmissions i've been dying to put in...But none of the accessories...i literally have only the transmissions.
What else do I need to put a manual in?

auto to 5 speed swap ftw! definitely helped my car out. it ran so much better and smoother after it. faster, easier, and its a 5 speed. i say do it. look up rotary resurrection's writeup on it on his website. it helped me out a great deal. very easy just takes like 2 days.

I've seen the write up before... the thing i am looking for now *i guess* is a parts list.
I dont know enough about transmissions to name the components i'll need off the top of my head. u know? haha.
but i am searching the threads.

I'm also looking forward to a Manual Tranny swap, but I just spent a bunch redoing the suspension & putting in a GTU-s rearend... so, that's a ways off.
as stated before......its not just a writeup though, it has an entire parts list too.
Ahh.. Now I know... I can't remember the last time I looked at an auto... I knew it went in one of those directions, but UP seemed like the only logical one. I figured the fluid drains out of the torque converter back into the pan.
Same scenario for me. Long trip, 70mph, smoking heavy at stops. When this happened, I checked the fluid levels and it was 6 inches up the dipstick. 4 or so PAST the full mark. That isn't right. I put exactly the right amount a year ago and the levels have been spot on the full mark since. So I wait and let it cool for a few minutes. Then start car and check again. Still getting up the sticks too far. I noticed tiny bubbles on the stick right as I pulled it from the tube and the bubbles went away in a matter of a second or two. I do know that these transmissions have a way to overflow if you put too much fluid in. It's on the drivers side of the tranny.
So it dawned on me that something may be causing it make bubbles in the fluid and then flow out the overflow and then up the dipstick tube. My fluid levels won't seem to go down to full anymore. The air bubbles would make sense since it takes a while to get into gears and to shift between gears. It will hesitate, then clunk into gear. Will the fluid pump be the cause of this? If the pump is the cause, could it just be swapped out with another?
Everyone says to do a 5-spd swap. I don't have the time or resources for do a swap, plus I have a 5spd in my TII.
