Auto starting a standard
I bought a compustar auto start-alarm for my 87 t2, the clutch has to be depressed to start. The starter does allow it to be done on a standard. Can it be done?

Cool thanks. Haha yea definetly wont keep it in gear, as a matter of fact I never put the car in gear anyways. Only time I do is when im on a steep hill, easy to remember. The remote also comes with a feature where you tell the starter that you will be starting it later. The car then runs for 2 mins like a turbo timer and shuts off, then its ready for start. I'm gonna try and see if my installer can cut that 2 mins down to like 10 seconds. Kind of a unnecessary to run the car for 2 mins just to start it by remote later. Probly gonna get him to hook up the turbo timer feature as well, just incase I feel like letting her cool down after a hard drive, otherwise I know we dont need turbo timers.

Your installer should be able to hook it up CORRECTLY for a manual. You will end up hooking up a negative programmable output to the ebrake and have it programmed for either one or two pulls. I can't remember exactly what else (its been awhile since I've done one), but you also wire it in so that the remote start can tell if its i gear or not. Most professionals don't like doing them because of safety issues but I have had no problems, that I know of.

No NO NO NO.
Come on guys. The FC has a neutral safety switch input from the tranny that detects if the car is in gear. It is a simple wire that has ground on it when the car is in neutral that can be found at the ECU, the drivers side fire wall, and the tranny.
That should be hooked up to the remote start so that the remote start can not activate with the car in gear. You should never hook a remote start up on a car that does not have a neutral safety wire.
And as far as the clutch switch as found on the 86.5 and later models, you simply hook the remote start starter wire output up to the output side of the clutch switch. No bypass needed.
This has all been covered countless times and should have been searched for.

I searched "auto start". I only search by words in topic, everything else is usually garbage.
I went to this one shop and they said they won't do it and he doesn't know of a single installer that does do it. I phone up the 1st shop on my list that install compustar and they said yup we can do it, 2nd shop yup we can do it.
