Auto/5spd. Interchangeable?
My question: Are automatic motors and 5 speed motors the same with the exception of swapping the flywheel/flexplate?
I am assuming that it is possible to interchange the two transmissions, but I heard somewhere (dont remember where) that the rear plate of the motor is different...
Thanks for the help guys...

yes it is the same motor. the rear end is a 3.90:1 instead of a 4.10:1 ratio. yes it is possible to change a auto to manuel like here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=201102
rear plate? the counter weight? yes it is different from auto to manuel, you will need to manuel one unless you go with an lightweight flywheel.

Well, I have kind of a strange dilemma. My car is an 88 SE auto. I have a turbo motor, just the motor (ecu and everything like that included too). I dont want to go through all the crap trying to find a manual, swap transmissions and gauge clusters and peadals and shifters and all that.....would a S4 TII motor bolt up to my S4 automatic transmission with the swap of the flygheel/flexplate and counterweight?
yes but then you would have to go through all the crap to get your car home when the auto breaks. its not a good thing to have a auto 7 trust me. get a tII trans unless you want to make under 250 hp then go with a n/a
but yea a auto would bolt up to a turbo motor

Im not looking to build an all out race car, i want to have the looks of the beautiful 2nd gen rx7, the power of the turbo 2 rotary motor, and the convienence of the automatic transmission......i have my supercharged 3.8L fiero for racin......
You might have an issue with engine balance however. The motor was factory balanced for a auto flywheel. Your best option is to go for a light flywheel because a TII manual flywheel is a hell of a lot heavier than a auto flywheel. At least from my experience.

But if i change the flywheel/flexplate AND the counterweights i should be good rite?.....maybe i should leave the counter weight and just do the flywheel, that will keep the engine balanced right? but would it work is the big question?
Here why don't you wait for a few weeks because I'm doing the same thing and I can guide you through it after I do mine. I think thats what I have to do also. I'm keeping the counter wieght and bolting a light steel flywheel.
