theres a round disc that the pully bolts on to. i cant get thid disc off, if i can get it off i can pull it through the support and remove the whole thing. how did you guys remove it?

Remove your A/C then just unbolt the whole assembly....

what exactly are the advantages of removing it? i cant see any other than mure muscular arms

not only is it a horsepower gain, and weight removal, but corning feels alot better at speed, since you can feel the road

I think the hp gain is negligable(sp) and I don't think it weighs too much (though i could be wrong), but it IS a major improvement to road feel. Plus you can brag that the only thing that isnt manual in your whole car is the brakes. Well, I can, at least.

yes the horse power gain is minimul, since your not really gaining hp, your just restoring lost hp. as for weight...every little bit helps =)

Yeah, I totally forgot about cleaning up the engine bay. Thats another definate plus. One less belt, too.

it is not that hard to remove. There are 6 bolts holding it onto the sub-frame. Two on one side, 4 on the other. You access them from the bottom of the car. Then the two tie rods one on each end. Then remove the steering part from the column, and all the plumbing. That is it, not any harder than that.

Oh yeah, you have to remove the Stabalizer bar.

n/m guys i got it out. i just beat thedisc with a hammer and it poped off. a/c is next... goodby unneeded vac lines!

You may have to pull the engine up to remove teh bracket and lower bolts of teh AC, as teh bolts themselves will more than likely hit the frame as you start to remove them. IIRC I could only remove my ac and the bracketry once my engine had been removed.

I agree 100%. My 'new' '87 TII has a jacked up manual-rack, but the one I just sold had a good PS rack... Since I'm having to replace the rack etc. in my new TII, I'm just going to do the manual to PS swap...

People talk about the better road feel with a manual-rack and I agree. But I consider it more important (for me) to be able to drive (on the street) with my mind and eyes... Not my arms. I like the fact that slower-speed turns aren't a laborous affair, as they are when using a manual-rack. I guess to remain legal on the road, I try to enjoy everyday driving at a 'slower than track' speed. It's nice to be able to casually whip around a sharp/slow turn with no effort.

I've never had an issue with it. You just have to wiggle them a little. I will admit that there's not *that* much room, but there is enough.

Hmm then I guess it was just me and my 1/2 inch drive sockets not wanting to fit in the space. But I was pullign the motor anyway that day so it was just easier to pull the motor then the bracket and such, as well as remove the now useless studs as i dont have PS nor the AC.

I just removed the a/c compressor on my car twice an hour ago and I can tell you, with bloodied hands, that the top two bolts can be easily unscrewed and removed while the bottom two are harder to unscrew and cannot be removed, unless you unscrew the compressor and pull it sideways.

But, you don't NEED to remove them you can just leave them there in the compressor and slip the compressor out.

Also I just found out that there are two different kinds of compressors on Rx-7's and that's why I had to put all my manual steering back after taking it out, because the new bracket didn't take my old compressor. DANG THAT SUCKED!!

Yeah... Ok, that's how it works. You undo the bolts and leave them IN while you maneuver the AC compressor out towards the front of the car.
