Anyone who's done an s4-s5 turbo swap

Okay, so, this weekend I changed over from my s4 turbo/manifold, to an s5 turbo/manifold. Everything worked out well, but I was curious for those who've done it....did yours sound considerably louder too? I mean, mine wasn't quiet before....and it has been a little while since it's been up and running, but it just seems louder to me.

Gimme your input...'cause I'm thinking the differences in the manifolds could be what's causing it. I may actually get a different muffler....dunno yet.

Thanx.

Could be from the difference in wastegate size, but I dont see how it could be that much louder.

This is gonna sound really bad....but the car was warming up this a.m. and I was sitting down putting my shoes on, and I could literally "feel" my car running through the floor.

did you check for gasket tightness and ensure that it was sealed properly?

Yeah, everything bolted up nice and snug. Back in the day I had a manifold-turbo gasket leak, and you could hear some "clicking" relatively easily under the hood. Everything sounds really tight, just a touch louder.

You guys will probably laugh at my exhaust and wonder how I could stand it that loud anywho..but it's straight 3" no cats, and a 30"x3" glasspack where the 2nd cat used to be, then it kicks out the side right before the right rear wheel.

I'll probably change that glassback out for something a little.....quieter.

so you dont have any clearance issues with the s5 turbo and exhaust manifold over the stock s4 manifolds? i was thinking about this but i think i read somewhere there could be a clearance issue with the lim of the s4?? anyway, that helps out alot and i may purchase an s5 type turbo then.

Ry.

the s5 setup is louder, the s4 has the twin scroll actuator which diverts the exhaust flow into a smaller opening when closed (below 3000rpm to suposidly spool faster....), it makes the exaust quieter, but it gets louder when it opens back up.....
the s5 just has a striaght threw with out an actuator,

Nah man, bolted right up. The line for the twinscroll actuator had to be capped, but everything else bolted up fine.

And Kompressor, thanks for not making me think I've lost my mind.

I'll just throw on a magnaflow, or something...the 70mph cruise is deafening.
