88 vs 89 rx7 engine

88 vs 89 rx7 engine

I'm about to buy an engine for my rx7 it was for 88' rx7 will it fit in my 89'
and if so what do i need to change it's also automatic and my transmission is manual what do i need to change?

it will fit, you will need to reuse all your 89's electroncs and manifolds. you will either have to bloick off the oil metering pump and premix, or put the front cover and OMP, AND water pump housing, from the 89 on the 88 block.

then for the auto to na you need the manual flyhweel from an 86-88, and probably the front counter weight from one also( not 100% on the counterweight actually... search for that )
there might be more cant remember
so short answer its a bit of work to do this!

Short answer: no.

Long answer: Yes, but you will need to swap all the sensors and intake manifolds from your '89 over to the '88 block to make it work. To go from automatic to manual you need to swap the front counterweight and flywheel. Lots of work, and the result is an engine with less power then the '89.

Edit...Oops, forgot about the front cover. You'll need to put the front cover and metering oil pump on from your '89.
