Anyone who KNOWS the FC wiring - Please read

My car is is pure track car - no headlights, turn signals, horns, windshield wipers - basically if it doesn't help the car go fast, I removed it. So my question is this, what all relays do I still need bare minimum to keep my car running? I want to cut off as much as possible and re-wrap whats left of the harness.

For instance, what is that big brass looking relay that just to the left of the clutch master cylinder? Is there anyway to identify the relays I need by the numbers on the?

Please help ... I would love to get this ironed out this weekend. Where's Ted when you need him?

thats the main relay, it gives power to all the stuff that makes the car run....
why dont you just take out what you dont want and rewire the rest?? to much work?? you would save a bunch of weight

I also have the whole FSM on my site that has the full wiring diagrams in it. You need a Haltech so you can remove ALL of the wiring in the engien bay and just replace the stuff you need That is about what I plan on doing when my Haltech gets here...someday...maybe

I'm going through this same thing with my track car. The best advice I can give is to get a factory manual for your specific year. My car started as an 86 but received a 90 motor and computer. None of the wiring is the same. My factory 86 manual is of no use now and I just ordered a new 90 manual after spending a couple weekends pulling my hair out.

Basically, none of the vacuum/pollution crap is needed. You can do away with just about everything except for the coils and CAS. Disconnect the lead to the O2 sensor and force the car into open loop. Then tune it with fuel pressure. The only time you have trouble is with cold start up. You just have to baby it till it gets warm.

Is it possible to rewrap the wiring harness with 3M electrical tape? Or is there a better tape to use?

No not at all, your question had nothing to do with the topic of the thread, and re-wrapping harnesses has been covered more than a couple of times.

And yes you can re-wrap a harness, however you should remove the old tape and use a better quality 3M tape (like 3M 77) or high temp teflon tape.
