Anyone using a JDM or Jspec engine?

Just wondering what kind of luck people have had with these engines. Taxes are coming back and Im pricing a decent rebuild kit and street porting an S4 N/A engine w/ S5 rotors and just adding some of the stuff up I could pick up a JDM T2 w/trans for somewhere around the same. I would have to pick up a wire harness and ecu if it didnt come with them, also down pipe and either a T2 hood or a FMIC. Kind of up in the air now.

JDM Engines have a 50/50 chance of being in good shape. Most sites says they've been pulled from running cars, and that's normally true, but you don't know how long they've been sitting. The insides could be rusted, the coolant seals could be gone. You won't know until you either fire it up or tear it down.

I'm going to order a Jspec T2 engine here shortly and we'll see how it goes!

If you get a j-spec, you should expect to have to rebuild it in the near future as you know nothing of its condition. I say just rebuild the engine you have.

im all for you doing a t2 swap, but yeah, jdm's are iffy, even w/ good compression, the coolant seals could be worn, among other things..... id buy the jdm, rebuild it, and then be worry free!

I got my T2 out of a guys field with a rusted stuck 13bt in it. I pulled it and ordered an S4 T2 Jspec engine and started right up and I have had no problems since.

Runs great and starts up anytime I need it and it is my daily driver.

Research is your best friend. Don't just order from the first place you find and if you do ebay then research that person or company selling it.

if you have hella miles on your motor now, (like me), buy a jspec. but expect (set aside the funds) to rebuild it. this is what im doing this summer. itll be an S4 TII -> S5 JDM. that should be fun. but yeah the reason i say buy a jspec is because with high miles on the motor, the housings and whatnot probably have too much wear and tear to reuse, and ordering them is freakishly expensive. it would be cheaper, in some cases, to just buy a damn reman. now true, Jspecs are a gamble, but its cheaper (even if you have to do a rebuild) than a reman or a rebuild on a high mileage motor. just my 2 cents

it sounds like you want a turbo. since you planning on taking the motor out anyway, you should just do the swap. it's not that expensive and its soo easy to do. as far as the JDM motor goes. go for it. there is always a success story to a horror story. mine is a great success. i've had it for over a year now, put plenty of miles on it and drive the hell out of it. but in all honesty, you do need to buy from a reputable company and regardless, you need to be ready for a rebuild... just in case.

most places will give you a startup, and 30day warranty. you should ask for a comp check also. i've heard osakajdm is good. the place i went through seems to be out of business. sucks too, they were inexpensive and their warranty was great.

there's no real difference. just a little emission difference. no performance or anything. there's an abundance of JDM motors

I just received my swap from Osaka. The only thing that I don't like is that the Intercooler is bent. Put everything looks great. It comes with the downpipe, altenator, starter, powersteering.

I'm putting this into my 86' base model. Is it true I can't use the jdm wiring harness that came with the swap? Why or why not?
