Does anyone know what shop would put this on their rebuilds? Factory maybe?

Thanks.

Supposedly it melts if you overheat the engine, hence the no warrantee thing.

Edit: I don't know which shops use it but its more than one.

Most companies who sell jspecs put that on their engines. Its a heat tag that that melts at (or around) 245F.

Just about any junkyard or engine rebuilder will stick those on an engine if the engine goes out the door with any kind of warranty. At a preset temp, the stamp will fall off the engine. That way if you overheat it, they have proof you did and will call your warranty null and void.

I am 90% sure that my Atkins motor has them (or at least something like it) and I am positive a J-spec motor I got a few years ago had them on each rotor housing. But that j-spec motor was blown from day 1 and the provider still did not warranty it.

You wouldn't by chance be located in Washington. I had an engine rebulit by Hayes Rotary here in Washington and I noticed the same stamp. It is so the customer does not get in there, and if they do that voids any warrenty that you may have.
