If you look were the turbo is you'll see it's not going to be pointing into the engine bay, it's basically pointing out of the engine bay. Plus it'll only be flowing when the car's moving fairly quick.

That was actually done by a US forum member a couple of years ago. There was a long thread about divided and big-mouth downpipes, but the pics have gone from it. My downpipe is like that, but the wastegate pipe is shorter.
