Anyone have a link to a write up on S5 6 port fix?

I have a friend with an S5 who's complaining that his 5th and 6th ports aren't opening anymore. I know this is a common problem on FC's so I told him I'd help him fix it. I did a search here and in the archive, but most of the info I found was how to wire them open or remove them, he wants them to work as designed. If anyone could point me to a good write up on the fix procedure and a list of parts we'll need to replace along the way (gaskets, etc) I'd appreciate it. TIA!

Ok let me try and remember what I did:

1-remove all the crap that is attatched to the UIM
2-Remove the UIM( you should get a new gasket for this as it might rip itselft into peices when you do this
3-remove the ACV(already off on my car)
4-Remove the air pump and hoses(same as ACV)
5-disconnect the split air tube from the LIM disconnect the little rubber hose from the slpit air tube that goes to the auxilary ports
6-Remove the actuators you will need the little gaskets for these suckas
7-remove the two oil injectors that are on the LIM YOu will probably need new lines as these brake easily(i broke three of four on my car:I pre-mix now)
8-Remove the LIM( you will need a gasket for this too)
9-Remove the sleeves from their little holes(I used prliers on the one that was stuck in my car)
10-Clean all the parts that have carbon build-up on them with your favorite cleaner and some steel wool might help.
11-all the steps backwards.(seems easy but can be a learning experience as it was for me)

I will add more stuff and details as i remember them

P.S. I also have a thread on this search for it and you might find some more details.

Thanks, for the info, I'll try searching again for your thread. Isn't yours an S4? I thought the process was different for the S5's.

oh I don't know I have never seen an S5 taken apart. I think it is fairly the same kind of stuff. The OMP is electric rather than Mechanical. I think the intakes are diferent and the pulsation damper is too.

Thanks, I've been doing a lot of reading and found that out. I just dl'd the FSM so I'm going to look through that too. Anything else I should be doing while I have the manifolds off? How about cleaning out the TB, checking TPS, what about this VDI system?

I posted a few writeups.

My mainstay repair job on these cars is cleaning and repairing the intake system on these S5 cars.

I have done many writeups.

I have a step by step somewhere.. where is it..

fix for: Idle, compression, mileage, power loss, 6ports problems too!

here it is!

Oops, that one touts the grad nature of the ATF trick.
I dont beleive in that anymore.

Do a search for Sniper_X and the word PORT.

All my posts are there, maybe in the archive too?

I offered to post a write up a while ago for people on how to remove them and clean them and install pineapple racing six port sleeves a while ago but no one wanted it. If you want it just instant message me on MontyBiggums on AOL. Ill send it to you that way. Cause its too long to post here and I have pictures on the write up.

Cleaning the ports will be the same on the s5 as the s4. The stuff you take off will be slightly different though.

While it is apart you can always polish and/or port the intake manifold. I would also check all the mecanicals of the throttle body while it is off and clean the injectors & air bleeds.

Also DO NOT re-use the vaccum lines if they are not VERY rubbery!

You will need 20 feet of Vaccum tubing that is very tight on the metal tubes, get the right inside diameter.

I use winsheild washer tubing, its the same.

And remember, never remove a Vac line form both ends at the same time.
Unless you have a photographic memory!

Thanks for all the tips. Doing the "hose job" on my FD's "rat's nest" has made me very familiar with the proper way to attack brittle vacuum hoses. I learned the hard way not to tear everything apart without first marking the ends or taking pictures.

I ran z-max in my car and then drove to maine, 300 miles or so at about 75mph. After that they werent stuck anymore. Also, check the seals on the actuators.

OK I'm at a lost here. I have an S5 that has a DP and all cats removed, I also removed the air pump. Has all of this actually slowed me down some how?, If so, what has it done and how do I fix it?, I thought that port problem was a pre-S5 problem.

It is one of those late night infomercial products. They are also sold a autozone i think. I would not use it. I don't trust infomercials. If it was really good they would have made enough money by now to advertise on primetime.

Just use some carb cleaner on the parts it works well.

might try putting carb cleaner in the intake and seeing if it frees up the ports, save you the hassle of disassembling the whole car

It is not really hard but if you have never done it I would allow for some time like the weekend. I took about 5 days but I did other stuff like setup my pre-mix and blocked off all that crap. I also strugled taking off the damned gasket off the LIM.
